Pit bulls have a reputation for being aggressive and dangerous, and if they are treated badly, this reputation may very well be accurate. For the majority of dog breeds, it all comes down to how well the owner raises their pet by making sure they feel safe. Nothing about a dog determines its behavior; instead, it depends on how its owner has raised it. Maybe there isn’t universal agreement on pit bulls, but everyone can agree that this pit bull is a true hero.
Remayah Hernandez, age 5, and her sister were riding bicycles when Tank, the neighbor’s labrador, appeared out of nowhere. The young girl did not hesitate to attempt to attract the dog’s attention because she is a small dog lover. She only desired to pet it. However, the day was marred by blood and tears.
The dog bit the girl in the face right away in an attack. Remayah began yelling for assistance while clearly in fear. Her screams roused not only her mother, but also the family pit bull, Trigger, to action. He suddenly seemed to defy everything he had been taught as a puppy while he was outside in the family’s backyard.
To attack another dog in this manner, he had to leave the family’s backyard and jump the fence. When Trigger heard his 5-year-old owner screaming for help, he ran to her aid and attacked Tank, who was ultimately hurt. Given the reputation of the breed, a pit bull attacking another dog typically sparks strong feelings and often results in tragedy. But in this instance, Trigger made the right decision.
Tank was taken in by the police station’s animal control, who ultimately had to euthanize him. The young girl’s injuries were treated at the hospital after being transported there in an ambulance.
The family had saved money for a vacation to Disney World, but they had to use it to cover the costs of plastic surgery for their young daughter after she was bitten by the neighbor’s dog. At that point, a fundraising website was set up so that people could donate to the family. A total of $1000 was eventually raised to grant this young girl’s wish, ensuring Remayah would still be able to visit Disney World. The little girl was obviously terrified after the attack, but she was most appreciative of what her hero had done for her. Or “superhero,” as she likes to refer to him now. Trigger genuinely supported her when she needed him.
It is still unknown how the labrador was able to get out onto the street and roam around the neighborhood uninhibited while the neighbor was at work that day. The neighbor, who was shocked to learn what had happened, assumed right away that there must be a piece of the puzzle missing from the entire narrative.
He was relieved to learn the young girl next door was unharmed despite the fact that he firmly believed his dog was innocent. Everyone was thankful Remayah recovered quickly from that terrible incident.
