Shannen Doherty, the actress, has been candid about her cancer diagnosis and treatment; but, she is now disclosing some extremely devastating news. Her Instagram post announcing the news said, “January 5th, my ct scan showed Mets in my brain.”
Radiation therapy is currently being used to treat her brain cancer. On January 12th, she underwent her initial radiation treatment. “My fear is obvious,” she said. “Since I suffer from severe claustrophobia, my life was quite busy.”
Despite the fact that Doherty is going through a frightening period, she expressed her thankfulness for her doctors in a letter, saying, “I am fortunate as I have fantastic doctors like Dr. Amin Mirahdi and the amazing technologists at Cedar Sinai.”
“But this is what cancer may look like—that worry, that turbulence, that timing.” Along with the post, she uploaded a video of herself receiving radiation while making no attempt to hide her fear at the time.
Doherty received her initial cancer diagnosis back in 2015. Metastatic breast cancer was the cause of her diagnosis. Doherty achieved remission in 2017 after undergoing radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and a single mastectomy.
Doherty and Chelsea Handler had a conversation about her struggle with breast cancer back in 2017. Watch the video below to hear what she had to say.
Doherty’s cancer returned in 2019, but she delayed making the news public. Doherty disclosed to the world in 2020 that her breast cancer was currently in stage 4. Numerous of her well-known pals sent comments on her Instagram post after learning of her cancer diagnosis. “Rooting for you, my irreplaceable friend,” Kevin Smith wrote. “You have always been such a fearless fighter, so it is understandable that you occasionally feel frightened. But after those times have passed, allow that unbreakable Doherty spirit to reign once more.”
“This is a lot,” wrote Selma Blair. “Again, there’s a lot to handle here. And I’m hoping that in your moments of dread, all the knowledge of intelligent peace may come to you. to know you are in our care. Love, love, love.”
