Boy George’s adored mother Dinah O’Dowd passed away on Monday at the age of 84.

Representatives for the Culture Club singer confirmed the tragic news to MailOnline, stating that he is “devastated” by the passing.

George, 61, who was with Dinah at the time and is a family member, has requested privacy.

Boy George’s manager PK issued a statement saying, “I am very sad to confirm the news of The passing of Boy George’s lovely mother Dinah.”. The entire family, including George, is inconsolable.

“When she died, they were gathered by her bedside, and George was holding her hand. Although he is unable to respond, he appreciates the messages and finds them to be beneficial. He asks me to convey his deep appreciation for the outpouring of love and support he is experiencing. ”.

The statement reads, “George and his family would kindly request some privacy at this time to be able to grieve and deal with their heartbreaking loss.”.

Boy George, real name George O’Dowd, has one sister and four brothers. George has previously discussed how Jeremiah, his father, beat his mother, despite the fact that he passed away in 2003.

Dinah received praise from Boy George’s close friend DJ Fat Tony, who wrote on Instagram, “God bless you, you amazing woman. My condolences go out to @boygeorgeofficial and the O Dowd family as a whole for Dinah’s passing. Amazing, beautiful, and strong describe you. ”.

According to Boy George’s 2020 report, his mother returned home in April after spending two days in the hospital with “heart or lung problems.”. ”.

Dinah was brought into Greenwich Hospital for treatment, but she was later released back into her family’s care for reasons unrelated to the novel coronavirus COVID-19.

When calling Lorraine from his home in London, George expressed his relief that his mother had avoided a situation in which she might have come into contact with the deadly bug.

He said, “My mother has come home and is doing well. Fortunately, she did not spend two days in the hospital as a result of the corona. ”.

And it wasn’t what we first believed, the speaker continued, “so everything about it was just getting her home from the hospital because obviously, with everything going on, my mum’s 82, it’s not the best place for her to be.”. ”.

George agreed that when he reflected on Dinah’s hospitalization, he realized that she received the best care possible from devoted NHS staff who worked hard to keep her spirits high.

He recalled, “I was able to speak to her on the phone, which was really funny. It was a really sweet moment when the nurse told my mother, who was listening to her sing, “I can’t hear you, take your mask off.”.
”.

After she was admitted to the hospital, the doctors said they “won’t resuscitate if things go wrong,” which prompted George to ask for prayers for his “beautiful mother. ”.

The Culture Club star wrote on Twitter, “My beautiful mum is in the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Woolwich. ”.

“She has a heart or lung condition. She is stable, despite the fact that they have said they won’t revive her if something goes wrong. Obviously, it won’t work. Please pray for us, @LG_NHS, how do they know? ”.

In 2017, he spoke about the time he saved his mother’s life from an overdose.

He admitted on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories that she was taking medication. In my confusion over what had happened, I remember sort of keeping her awake.

Regarding the problems between his mother and father, George had said: “I used to tell my mum to leave my dad when I was like nine. ”.

“Don’t get me wrong, I really loved my father, but he wasn’t a good husband or father. ”.

“My dad was a pretty extreme guy,” George continued. If he lost his temper and threw the entire Sunday dinner away, everyone would go hungry. ”.

But everyone did that in the 1970s, so it wasn’t unusual for him to strike and punch us all the time. It happened frequently. ”.

He was quite charming and witty but also prone to losing control. I didn’t realize how resilient my mother was until I was 15 or 16 years old because he was such a stark contrast. ”.
