You can tell something special is about to happen when the drill team from Mercer Island High School enters the gym. I’m never done marveling at this group, and I always enjoy their performances.
As the women assume their positions, the audience can hardly contain their excitement, and things only get better from there. They start with a basic formation and come to a head with a human “domino effect.”. The audience is genuinely engaged by this.
They move into position after that in a shifting pattern, drawing more yells from the audience. When they hit the ground, the true magic happens.
They can’t see each other, but they’re in perfect time with the music and each other.
The moment they line up diagonally across the gym is the most memorable part of the performance. It is fascinating to watch as they align correctly and produce an optical illusion and wave-like effect.
The females then lay on the ground, link arms, and pull one another in a wave pattern. The sweet dance performance that follows is fantastic, and it is amazing to watch. The choreographer of this routine merits praise.
