On January 14, 2019, the first batch of West Side Story cast members were announced, among which were Rachel and Josh. Rachel shared her delight at the news on Instagram.
Summer 2019: Rachel and Josh film West Side Story
Rachel and Josh presumably met while filming West Side Story in the summer of 2019 in New York City. Although the pair’s characters didn’t fall in love, Maria and Chino still appeared in many scenes together.
February 2021: Rachel tweets about Josh
On February 17, 2021, Rachel tweeted: “i love josh andres rivera,” and shared several photos of the two together.
December 2021: Rachel and Josh promote West Side Story and spend Christmas Eve together
December 4 – Ahead of the movie’s release, Rachel and Josh did promotional work for West Side Story. On Instagram, Rachel shared a series of photos of herself and the cast doing interviews, including a couple snapshots of her and Josh together.
December 7 – Rachel and Josh both attended the West Side Story premiere.
December 27 – Rachel reflected on her “weird” year alongside many photos. She included a picture of her hugging Josh and added in the caption: “spending christmas eve with a man i have never met before, maybe you know him, he seems pretty cool— like he could be the love child of iron man and john wick, idk though.”
February 2022: Rachel dedicates a Valentine’s Day post to Josh
On February 14, Rachel celebrated Valentine’s Day by officially confirming her romance with Josh.
She posted a black-and-white photo of the pair on Instagram, with the caption, “committing valen-crimes.”
March 2022: Rachel and Josh share their first public moments as a couple
March 18 – Rachel won the Best Actress award for her role in West Side Story at the National Board of Review gala. In her acceptance speech, shared on Twitter, she wrote: “I wish to extend my thanks to the love of my life, who I was blessed enough to meet on the set of this film many moons ago. Thank you for holding my hand in my dreams and in my reality. I love doing life with you. Thanks for making me laugh.”
March 27 – Rachel and Josh attend the Oscars together, marking their first red carpet appearance as a couple.
March 28 – In her recap Instagram post from the big night, Rachel shared some photos of her and Josh with the caption: “couldn’t have done any of it without my other half by my side.” She added, “and forever thanks to my josh, for everything, always.”
April 2022: Rachel and Josh attend the Grammys together
April 3 – The couple attended the 2022 Grammys together. Rachel performed alongside a group of Broadway stars during the show’s “In Memoriam” segment.
April 4 – Rachel posted an adorable photo of her and Josh on the Grammys red carpet. She captioned the post: “it’s all so much more fun with you.”
April 19 – Rachel talked about Josh in her cover story for Elle magazine. She said of her boyfriend: “There’s always this deep understanding of what I go through. Since [his experience was] on a different scale, he’s able to bring me back to earth and tell me when it really doesn’t matter. May 2022: Rachel wishes Josh a happy birthday
On May 1, Rachel posted a pair of birthday tributes for Josh on Twitter.
She first shared, a pair of photos of them from the past Christmas Eve, writing, “i love you happy birthday :)”

June 2022: Rachel and Josh are cast in the Hunger Games prequel
On June 15, Josh was confirmed confirmed to be joining the cast of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes alongside Rachel, who had already been cast.
Rachel took to Twitter to react to the news, writing, “always and forever proud of my joshua.”
November 2022: Rachel calls Josh her “favorite actor in the world” adter the Hunger Games prequel wraps filming
Upon the completion of filming The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Rachel commemorated her time working on the movie and thanked the entire cast and crew on Instagram.
She also included a nod to her boyfriend, writing, “to my favorite actor in the world, josh rivera, i love you so much. more and more each day. i am so glad we did this together.”
March 2023: Josh supports Rachel at the Shazam! Fury of the Gods premiere

October 2023: Rachel and Josh attend more events and celebrate their two-year anniversary

November 13 – Rachel and Josh attended the Hunger Games prequel’s Los Angeles premiere, posing for many cute photos on the carpet together. They also dished on what it was like working with each other on the film.
November 16 – Rachel shared a touching post about Josh ahead of the movie’s release.
