Indus is a beautiful Husky/Malamute/Timber Wolfhound from the Northwoods of New Hampshire, USA.
In 2018, two-year-old Indus was living with his mother Morgan while his father was away for military training. Military service is difficult for the whole family, especially for pets who may not understand why their loved ones are leaving or coming back.
The bark turns into a kiss
The soldier and the dog were reunited
Devin Ekstrom, of Northwood, New Hampshire, left for basic training with the US Army on October 15, 2017. His entire family, including his beloved dog, hadn’t seen him in 10 months. So when Devin came home for Christmas break, everyone was happy, but especially the people of Indus. It was an even bigger surprise for him because he didn’t know his father would be home that day.
Ten months may not seem like a long time to a human, but to Indus it seemed like an eternity. Luckily, Devin’s partner, Morgan, made sure Devin and Ind’s date was filmed. The results will surely bring you to tears. In the video, Indus can be seen barking at the man, whom he initially thought was a stranger and stranger.
Devin was wearing a military uniform and big boots, which must have confused young Indy. But as soon as Ind got close to his father and smelled him, everything changed.

at the feet of love
“Who are you?” Morgan asked Indus. Devin dropped to his knees and the two were now eye level. At that moment, Indus ran to his father and kissed him. It was such a beautiful moment. There was lots of kissing, hugging, swinging, tail wagging and overly passionate zooms.
Indus was so excited to finally have his dad home that he couldn’t contain his happiness. He started running around and coming back to hug his dad.
“Indus’ dad was so happy and blown away by the love he gave him once he realized it was him,” Morgan told Spotlight Stories. “I was crying along with the rest of the family.”
