This holiday season has brought so much joy to an exceptional boy named Granite, who is at the Jacksonville Humane Society looking for a brighter future.

Little did he know that his vacation dreams were about to come true. To start the new year, Granite received the most touching Christmas present imaginable. It’s a forever family.

An extraordinary boy named Granite

When this 6-year-old canine companion arrived at the Jacksonville Humane Society, everyone at the shelter was fascinated by his velvety gray coat.

But it wasn’t just the gray velvety fur that made this boy special. Everyone soon learned that granite has another unique feature. It was that he was deaf. After realizing the importance of this trait, it became clear that she may need additional support to connect with potential adopters and find a loving home.

In an effort to provide Granite with added enrichment and facilitate encounters with potential adopters, the Humane Society made a heartwarming decision — they designated him as a ‘Dog Day Out Adventure Dog.’

This distinctive program offered by the shelter allows dogs like Granite to embark on city explorations, accompanied by a host of friends.

“Granite explored Jacksonville with lots of friends, including one special person — Jordyn,” the Jacksonville Humane Society said in a Facebook post.

According to the Humane Society, Jordyn is a local college student who took Granite on not just one, but two heartwarming Dog Day Out Adventures in early December.

Well, it only took two outings together for Jordyn to completely fall in love with this precious boy because after the second one, she finally decided to adopt Granite!

“Granite is an amazing guy and has a very big personality. He has settled in wonderfully here and cuddles like no other. In my heart, I knew Granite was meant for me. I’m so incredibly blessed to have been able to have the opportunity to give him a loving home. He never leaves my side and constantly searches for me if I’m not in sight. Granite is my soulmate in dog form,” Jordyn told the Jacksonville Humane Society.

There couldn’t have been any better ending for this story, and the credit goes to the amazing program that brings dogs and people together so seamlessly.

‘Dog Day Out’ Program

For those unfamiliar with this program, here’s everything you need to know.

According to the JHS, the ‘Dog Day Out’ program pairs visitors with adoptable dogs, creating unforgettable adventures for both the participants and the dogs.

The best thing about this program is that it’s really easy – you just need to come to the JHS during adoption hours and pick a dog with a ‘Dog Day Out’ tag.

The Humane Society takes care of everything else, providing necessary supplies and guidance for the participants.

“This program allows our dogs to enjoy a day outside of the shelter and come back feeling much more relaxed. Dog Day Out is also a great way to expose our pups to potential adopters out and about in the community,” the Humane Society wrote on their website.

It’s a special initiative aimed at not only enhancing the well-being of the dogs, but also creating opportunities for meaningful connections that could lead to forever homes.

As Granite settles into his new home, his story stands as a genuine testament to the incredible impact of this program.
