On the Mississippi Yazoo River over the weekend, a remarkable event took place. Unexpectedly, a group of hunters came across a large alligator and engaged it in a bloody struggle to get their catch. Unbeknownst to them, they were about to capture the biggest alligator ever found in the entire state, making history!

The previous record had stood for the previous six years, but this enormous predator, which was an impressive 14 feet and three inches long and weighed an enormous 802 point five pounds, broke it by almost forty pounds. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks even calculated that the size of the animal’s tail alone was 46.05 inches thick and its belly alone measured an amazing 66 inches.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife posted a photo of the record-breaking capture on their official Facebook page to mark this amazing accomplishment. They commended the hunters for their success and congratulated the victorious team, which included Don Woods from Madison, Will Thomas from Oxford, and Tanner White from Flora. Joey Clark from Jackson couldn’t be seen, which is a shame.

Online users were astounded by the alligator’s enormous size as word of the catch spread. One person commented, “Good grief, that’s a monster!” and another, “OMG…such a monster! In Mississippi, they grow large! Kudos for your excellent catch,” clearly impressed by Mississippi’s ability to produce such enormous creatures. “.

One of the hunters, Don Woods, spoke with the Mirror about the protracted struggle it took to catch the alligator. “We hooked him eight or nine times, and he kept breaking off,” he said. He would take a seat, get up, and walk away. On logs he kept stepping. He was acting intelligently. Being there for so long is absurd. The amazing nature of their accomplishment is further enhanced by this illustration of the alligator’s fortitude and cunning.

It’s crucial to remember that Mississippi has allowed alligator hunting for the past 18 years. A regulated hunting season with a special permit is in place as a result of the state’s efforts to keep the alligator population stable. Only 920 of these permits are accessible to the general public, enabling an organized and ethical method of alligator hunting.

The unique wildlife that can be found in the waters off Mississippi is attested to by this impressive record-breaking catch. It displays the excitement of the hunt as well as the tenacity of these talented hunters. Once more, congrats to Tanner White, Will Thomas, Don Woods, and the entire team on a job well done!
