After being discouraged by the cost of replacing her car’s tires when only one was damaged, an elderly woman in Texas tried to leave the repair shop. She didn’t know that one of the state troopers had heard her awkward conversation with the mechanic.
One of Texas resident Mary Summers’ tires was punctured when she drove her vehicle over a nail at the age of 92. The elderly woman drove her car to Integrity Tires in Richmond, Texas, to have the tire patched, but was told that the repairs were too expensive for her budget.
Mary sat with the attending mechanic, Omar Oregueda, who explained that Mary’s car was hazardous because all four tires were severely worn. She was left with no choice but to replace the bandages, which would have cost her $600.
Mary said, “I can’t do all the tires,” to the neighborhood TV station KHOU. “Simply do the one, and please let me know how much this tire will cost.”.
Oregueda was compelled to decline the woman’s pleas.
The tire on her car couldn’t be fixed, and the other tires were worn out, Oregueda explained.
Already destroyed was their state.”.
Before getting up and leaving the establishment, Mary carefully moves her walker toward her chair.
A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper was seated directly behind Mary and was listening in on their conversation. Mary was not aware of this.
Before leaving the store, DPS Trooper Drew Stoner walked up to the desk in back of Mary and gave her a big surprise.
After returning to speak with Mary, Omar promised her that she would soon receive four new tires at no charge.
They are paid for, he proclaimed.
Mary’s mouth opened wide in surprise as she heard the news.
The elderly woman received a free oil change from Oregueda because he was kind and wanted to help her.
Omar said, “Let’s all look out for each other, for a stranger to look out for another stranger like that. “That is the main problem.
Stoner visited Mary at home after KHOU located the officer and reunited them. Mary wanted to express her gratitude to the authorities for saving her in such a surprising way.
Stoner clarified that he wasn’t acting in this manner to draw attention, but rather because he felt compelled to defend other motorists and her.
He questioned, “What if she gets on the road and her tire blows out, kind of falls apart, and she’s on the side of the road?”.
I’m so appreciative of you, Mary exclaimed as she gave the trooper a hug.
I’m overjoyed.
It makes me proud to meet someone with such a great heart. ”.
As news spreads online about Trooper Doper saving Mary, people are praising him for his unanticipated kindness.
According to a comment, this trooper “is a true American.”. “He stands for everything that is right in America. In all circumstances, people ought to assist others. I call that a hero.
After helping Mary in 2020, DPS Trooper Doper received the Medal of Valor, the highest honor given by the DPS, for his “bravery and dedication” in stopping a shooter and saving a woman who had been shot before his shift.
True hero DPS Trooper Drew Stoner is motivated by a genuine desire to assist the community rather than merely gaining attention. We want to express our gratitude for all of his efforts and let him know how lucky we are to have police officers like him on the force.
