Our dogs become part of our family from the moment they come into our home. We give them everything they need to grow: love, care and safety. It is very unfortunate that there are many owners who abandon their dogs and betray their trust.
La-Z-Boy Gatson is one of those abandoned dogs who waits for his master knowing he will never come. I wait on the dusty road
puppy on the bench outside
In June 2019, a 4-month-old puppy was found stuck on a bench on Gatson Road in Lincoln County, Mississippi.
Animal Control Officer Sharon Norton arrived on scene. He was very excited when he saw the little puppy sitting on the chair next to the TV.
It was obvious he hadn’t eaten in days. Even if you starve, there is hope that your master will come.
The puppy left on the bench could not understand that he had been abandoned. He didn’t want to move.
Feel free and safe

Norton came and fed him. The dog was happy that someone was taking care of him, giving him treats and giving him the comforting words he so desperately needed to hear.
He felt free. Norton has earned our trust.
“He was very excited when I picked him up and took him to the animal control van. I felt his tail wag on my back. “He knows he’s safe now,” Norton said. Norton took him to the Brookhaven City Shelter. He was bathed and treated in the ring. He was then taken to the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League to continue his rehabilitation.
Norton named the La-Z-Boy chair after how he discovered it. Rescuers said he was a friendly dog who slept through the night and enjoyed interacting with other people. He is very sociable and has many friends. One of his favorite things to do is play in the water.
After she recovered, she went to an orphanage, hoping to be adopted soon. Fortunately, he didn’t have to wait long.
It’s a happy ending.
Happy couple posing with their dog
In July 2019, La-Z-Boy Gatson announced on his Instagram account that he had found his forever home and loving family. His new parents, Dave Tramell and Sommer Guy, heard his heartwarming story and drove more than 15 hours from Michigan to Mississippi to meet and adopt him.
“Something struck me about his appearance. He looked so cute and sad,” Trammell said.
La-Z-Boy quickly adjusted to life in his new home. Within a few days he became very comfortable and started sleeping on his stomach.
“I think he just wanted a home.” You can tell they really appreciate it when we get here,” Tramell added.
La-Z-Boy lives with his family in Plymouth, Michigan. She still likes to sleep and ride in the car with her sister Penelope. We are so happy that she is living her best life.
