Meet Halo, the skinny girl who was found curled up and barely alive in the middle of a Mississippi forest.

Rescuers received a call about a vicious pit bull in the woods, but when they arrived they were shocked by the dog’s true condition. One look at her completely broke their hearts. Haro wasn’t bad at all. She was blind, neglected, and so exhausted that she could have been released without rescuers.

Curled up in the forest

Stacey and her husband Mike play an important role in Mississippi’s rescue community.

If you adopted a Mississippi rescue dog from Lucky Dog Sanctuary in Stamford, CT, there’s a good chance Stacey gave them a second chance. Harrow was one of many dogs.

When Halo was found in the middle of the forest, she was literally just a skeleton – just skin and bones. Stacey and her husband were able to rescue her from the forest with good food, but her condition was dire.

It was clear that because of her condition, poor Halo was denied basic necessities like food and shelter for weeks, months, and even years.

Most likely, she was used for breeding until she became “useless” to her owners, and they decided to abandon her in the forest.

“Her ears were cut with a pair of scissors, and she was most likely used for breeding. One eye is injured and damaged, the other is blind probably from an eye disease that should have been treated,” Stacey Frazier wrote in her Facebook post

It’s scary to think what this poor dog had to go through, but luckily she was eventually rescued.

Road to recovery

They decided to name her “Halo” because they weren’t even sure if she would survive, but luckily she did.

Stacey took her home and she immediately put her on antibiotics and started her proper nutrition. There were some moments where I wasn’t really sure if she would survive, but she was a true fighter.

“We knew that her sight was definitely impaired, but we didn’t know if she was fully blind until the doctor confirmed it. We do think that she can see shadows, but she’ll just walk right into a telephone pole,” Jessica from Lucky Dog Refuge told The Dodo.

Thanks to Stacey, Halo finally understands what true love is. She was very happy because for the first time in her life, someone treated her well. It took several months for her to finally recover, but when she finally did, it was time to transport her to Connecticut for treatment.

Halo has found a forever home

She was very happy when Halo arrived to rescue her – a completely different dog than when she was found in the forest.

At the shelter, we quickly learn that Halo loves ice cream and she is always happy to receive it. But there was still one thing missing. It is a loving forever home.

“She lets us know every day that she’s grateful for everything that she has now. She’s just an angel,” Jessica said.

Then the most amazing thing happened. Beautiful little Halo has found the perfect forever home where she will just grow up. But that’s not all. Her parents also decided to adopt Halo’s best friend Lane from the orphanage and now they are living their best life together.

Enjoy your new life, Halo, you deserve it!
