Owning a dog is a very common thing for many people in today’s world. Take them for walks, give them baths, give them treats and pat their bellies and in return they become the best companion you could ask for. Unfortunately, not everyone deserves such a companion. There are many cases where people abuse or mistreat their dogs, putting them in terrible situations. Statistics show that 28% of all violent crimes involve animal abuse, and dogs make up about 65% of all abused animals.[1]

An example of this kind of horrible treatment happening all over the world is the dog we’re talking about in this story.

new bright future

Meet Lola, an abused dog who was chained to concrete in a dark garage for eight years, unable to run, walk or even see much sunlight. Fortunately, that all changed when AMA Animal Rescue rescued him.

After being rescued, he lived for a time in Manhattan, New York, with his stepmother, Charlene von Sacher. After adoption, Lola quickly realized she had all the comfort she could want and spent her days lying on the couch taking long naps.

Von Sacher said to the Dodo: He knew where the bed was and what was soft and comfortable for him.

He slept anywhere during the short time he was with his new owners. He searched every corner of the house for comfort, looking for a place where he could curl up and sleep. If it’s convenient, that’s enough.

Von Sacher: “He took a pillow from my bed and put it on the dog’s bed. When I got home, his head was up. He made a bed out of my pillows.

His favorite hobby is sleeping with several pillows under him. Von Sacher says she loves Lola as the best dog she could find because Lola never stresses the importance of free time and relaxation.

In an interview with The Dodo, Von Sacher said: I think he’s getting better every day. They always say, “When you adopt a dog, you actually save two.” This is because taking a dog with you creates space for other dogs to enter the shelter or rescue group.

The world can sometimes be an incredibly cruel place for animals, but stories like this give hope for a better future for animals and pets.
