It was comparable to seeing a terrible train accident. I’m talking about the courtroom drama starring Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.
In the Depp v. On June 1 of last year, a verdict was reached in the case that served as a reminder to everyone of the reasons defense attorneys frequently advise their clients not to testify. It was impossible to feel sympathy for either celebrity because they were both problematic.
Due to testimony about his unrestrained spending, overindulgence, unapologetic and instantly recognizable swagger, swollen ego, screaming hissy fits, and teenage rock star-style partying, Depp was painted throughout the trial as a childish Peter Pan-like persona.
Heard, on the other hand, exuded a cool, calculating aura. It didn’t help that she allegedly made a cold-blooded decision to file for divorce three days after the death of Depp’s mother. Heard’s stoicism was interspersed with fleeting, unexpected tears, which led Depp’s attorneys to assert that she was acting (really, she couldn’t wait even another week). No matter if they were true or false, it was impossible to ignore the case’s dramatic elements.
The Depp and Heard trial had a lot of memorable moments that no one will ever forget. One year later, the memories of the alleged bed pooping are as deeply ingrained in our memories as the yellow curry stain on white linen clothing. But even though I hate Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, it’s clear that the year since the verdict has been unfair to him.
Only Johnny Depp and Amber Heard will ever know the real story behind their relationship, and even that is in question. From the outside looking in, their relationship was toxic and there was what might have been considered domestic violence on both sides. Even though neither Heard nor Depp were able to take stock of or own up to their actions, one was given a golden pass.
In the court of public opinion as well as the court of law, Depp undoubtedly benefited significantly from his star power and notoriety. Depp had joked about setting Heard on fire and drowning her in a text message to Paul Bettany before having sex with her corpse. Kate Moss was in Depp’s corner. In the interim, Heard had Elon Musk. Here, I’ll end.
Putting bad jokes aside, Depp has enjoyed a long and fruitful career in Hollywood. He has a track record of churning out blockbuster hits and has a devoted fan base.
I doubt that you heard.
Contrary to what some experts claim, Depp’s quick recovery was proof of this power disparity.
Disney fired him, so he has to give up a private jet and 10,000 boxes of Château Calon-Ségur. The seven-minute standing ovation that Depp received at the Cannes Film Festival last week, however, is indicative of his hopes for the future. Meanwhile, Heard seems to have vanished in a puff of smoke.
