Lemuel Buster, 76, decided to rent a car on his own after his car broke down so he wouldn’t miss a game. Buster works for the parks and recreation division in Paulding County, Georgia, as a referee.
The volleyball experience Buster has has influenced his devotion to and commitment to his children. He played the sport while in the Navy and is excited to do so once more.
Therefore, when his car broke down and he was unable to fix it, Buster decided to rent a car. Students and parents who saw him rent cars to go to their games were aware of this.
The referee had no idea that the volleyball players and their families had secretly started to save money so that Buster could purchase a new vehicle. Lemuel Buster’s unwavering dedication to his pupils made this community come together in support of this admirable goal.
The community’s efforts were not in vain. The father of one of the players, the owner of a used car lot, and the respected referee all decided to back him up.
They all gathered in the school gym to give Buster the money they had collected. He received $1,000 in cash, a $25 Walmart gift card, free meals at McDonald’s, and—most significantly—a Chrysler Sebring convertible from the community in exchange for his efforts.
Lemuel Buster burst into tears of joy as soon as he stepped outside the school gym and saw his car. The referee was able to arrive home in his own car after saying “thank you” to everyone.
