Born in 1996 with spinal muscular atrophy with respiratory distress (SMARD), Austin Jones faced a dire prognosis early in life. Doctors predicted he wouldn’t survive past two years due to the rare disease’s effects, which include muscle weakness and respiratory failure. Despite these challenges, Austin has defied expectations and thrived.

Finding Blessings in Adversity

Now 27 years old, Austin not only surpassed the initial life expectancy but also embraces his condition as a profound blessing. Reliant on a ventilator and wheelchair since 2003, he founded Live Intrepid, a clothing company that promotes living fearlessly and encourages others to seize every opportunity.

A Mission to Raise Awareness

Austin’s journey with SMARD has driven him to raise awareness and funds for the rare disease. With fewer than 100 known cases globally, his advocacy through Live Intrepid aims to shed light on SMARD and support those affected by it. His company serves as a platform to inspire others to live boldly despite challenges.

Love, Family, and New Beginnings

In 2021, Austin met Muckala, a single mom to three-month-old Hazel, who was moved by Austin’s story on social media. Their connection blossomed, leading to marriage in August 2023, just before the birth of their twins, Penelope and Poppy, in September. Despite insensitive comments online, Austin and Muckala remain steadfast in their love and commitment to their growing family.

Inspiring Resilience and Hope

Despite facing adversity and negativity, Austin continues to inspire others with his resilience and determination. His journey, marked by love, family, and entrepreneurial spirit, showcases the power of positivity in overcoming life’s challenges. As Austin and his family embark on this new chapter, their story resonates as a testament to the limitless possibilities of living with courage and love.
