We are inundated with tragic stories on a daily basis in the news, which can be demoralizing. Despite the difficulties we face, it’s critical to honor instances of bravery and resiliency. Today, we share with you the inspiring story of Ngo Quy Hai, a burn survivor who overcame all obstacles to open a bakery.

The journey toward resilience.
When Hai was still a young child, his life tragically changed. He had a terrible accident in the kitchen and got badly burned. Little was known about the risks associated with baby walkers at the time. In order to save his life, Hai underwent extensive medical procedures at Children’s Hospital 1 in Saigon.

Hai had physical scars from years of hospital stays and reconstructive surgeries that served as a constant reminder of the suffering he had experienced. However, the difficulties persisted. Due to his appearance, Hai also experienced mental trauma and bullying. He was confined to his home for nearly two years because he felt isolated from society and was afraid to leave.

Having Strength Through Friendship.
Despite his struggles, Hai found comfort in a friendship with someone who related to him. Through the highs and lows, they helped and encouraged one another. Hai’s dream came true during a tragic incident when they were ejected from a bakery because of their appearance and socioeconomic status. He desired to start his own bakery, a place where all people, regardless of social standing, would be welcomed.

Determination and Courage.
Hai enrolled in a hotel management program in Hanoi with the unwavering support of his family. Hai realized his dream of owning a bakery after overcoming his initial aversion to having his face seen. He welcomed kids selling lottery tickets into his shop with a warm smile and a piece of cake, turning it into a haven of joy and delectable treats.
Through his incredible journey, Hai has learned the value of kindness and compassion. He is aware firsthand of the profound impact that a single act of kindness can have on someone. Despite the difficulties he encountered, Hai has made it his goal to help those who go through similar struggles.
