In Kingston, Ontario, Canada, a Siamese cat was observed roaming the streets in 2018. She didn’t seem to be doing well, so a good person saved her in the hopes of giving her a better life. Carla Reilly Moore and her husband, who run a shelter for farm animals, were contacted by the good Samaritan, and they made the decision to take in the cat, which they later named Sapphire.

The majority of our attention is given to farm animals even though we are not a domestic animal rescue. But for some reason, when we got the call asking for Sapphire, we just took her in without asking any questions. Before I even realized what I was saying, I found myself saying yes,” Carla said.

My name is Sapphire. She was handed over to us a few days ago after being spotted wandering around a nearby town for… Posted by Carla Reilly on Sunday, July 15, 2018.

The first thing Carla and her husband did was take the adorable little puppy to the doctor. They discovered that she had a broken pelvis and eye issues there. Before Sapphire reached peak condition, she still had a ways to go.

Carla said, “We just don’t know.
It could have been a car, or she could have been kicked. Sapphire had trouble getting close to people, and it was nearly impossible to win her trust—possibly because of the way she had been hurt. The cat spent her first night in Carla’s house under the bed, where she remained for the entire next day. But everything changed when Sapphire first laid eyes on Carla’s infant daughter, Mary. Sapphire initially admired Mary from a safe distance. But as time went on, Sapphire’s affection for the infant grew, and she even made an effort to care for Mary as if she were her own child.

“Sapphire seemed to start defending the infant, which we noticed right away. She would jump up and run over to Mary whenever the dog came by,” Carla said.

Sapphire was quick to stand up for Mary. Carla and her husband were extremely impressed by this, and they are now proud parents of a new furry family member. Mary can now stroll while petting Sapphire. Mary is kissed and hugged by Sapphire in return.
