Construction sites are no place for dogs. It’s always busy and dangerous, so anyone without equipment can get hurt. But accidents happen, and it’s still not clear how they happened.
How did he get there in such a state? Why didn’t they notice it before?
Has he been there too long? How did this dog get stuck between two stones at a construction site?
There was no time to doubt the situation. The poor puppy needed to be rescued as soon as possible!
A difficult start to a new life

A strange cry brought them to him. The cry, the cry, the pain in that little voice…
A construction worker at the San Diego Valley Center hears the screams and runs to see what’s going on. Sure enough, there was a puppy stuck between two rocks inside the house.
He knew he couldn’t do anything without accidentally hurting the dog. That’s why we asked the San Diego County Fire and Animal Control Department for help.
But how to retrieve this trapped puppy? What approach do you use?
The rescuers tried to pull him out with a rope, but it was no use, despite the terrible decision they made. Then someone came up with the idea of soapy water acting as a lubricant.
And it worked!
After hours of trying to coax the puppy out, the little boy finally broke free.
“He was affectionate and tired,” one of the rescuers said. “The officer let him ride in the cab of the truck, and he cuddled next to the officer’s lap on the way to the shelter.”
What a rocky start to a new life!
Back at the San Diego County Animal Services shelter, in Carlsbad, the rescued pup got a new name: Snack!
He was so sweet you could eat him up!
Snack turned out to be a healthy boy. This happy pupper got his paws on a furever family rather quickly, as soon as the vet cleared him.
That construction worker could’ve easily turned around and ignored the crying sounds. It wasn’t his job to rescue pups trapped between rocks. But, it was his duty as a human being to stop for a second and help.
He did not know how to save that pooch, but he knew which numbers to dial for help to arrive.
If you ever get into a similar situation, don’t turn away. Don’t ignore an animal in need. It may be just one tiny animal, but you’re rescuing their entire life, and someone’s entire world one day.
