A Dog Lover’s Dilemma
For Chris and Marissa Hughes, sharing a bed with their eight rescue dogs posed a unique challenge. As each furry friend vied for space, the couple found themselves squeezed out or relegated to the couch. Determined to find a solution that accommodated their entire pack, they embarked on a remarkable journey.
A Grand Idea Takes Shape
Inspired by their love for their canine companions, Chris and Marissa conceived an ambitious plan: to build a bed large enough to comfortably accommodate their entire family. With visions of restful nights and cozy mornings dancing in their heads, they set out to turn their dream into reality.
Bringing the Vision to Life
Posting their idea on Thumbtack, a stroke of luck led them to Mike Ford, a skilled craftsman with a passion for dogs and a heart for seniors. Recognizing the opportunity to make a difference, Ford eagerly took on the challenge, determined to create a bed worthy of its inhabitants.
Crafting the Megabed
Utilizing solid cherry wood, Ford meticulously crafted the megabed to perfection. Spanning nearly 14 feet in length and 7 feet in width, with a towering headboard reaching 6 feet tall, the bed boasted ample space for both humans and dogs alike.
A Touch of Love
Incorporating thoughtful details, Ford engraved hand-carved paw prints into the bedposts, a tribute to his late dog Bailey and a nod to the Hughes’ commitment to senior dogs. With three pop-out drawers on each side and custom stairs for easy access, the megabed was a testament to both form and function.
A Sanctuary for All
With its completion, the megabed became a sanctuary for the entire family, comprising Marissa, Chris, and their beloved dogs: Mabel, Gremlin, Meatball, Tejas, Money, The Stig, Sam, and Quinn. It not only provided a place to rest but also served as a symbol of their unwavering devotion to their furry companions.
A Legacy of Love
Beyond their own pack, Chris and Marissa’s dedication to senior dogs extended to their nonprofit organization, The Mr. Mo Project. Named in honor of their late dog Moses, the project aims to rescue senior and sick dogs from euthanasia, offering them a second chance at a loving home.
A Call to Support
As advocates for senior dogs, Chris and Marissa invite others to join them in their mission. Through support for The Mr. Mo Project, individuals can help ensure that every dog, regardless of age or health, receives the love and care they deserve. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our furry friends.
