Deborah Roberts and Reese Witherspoon have paid tribute to Raquel Welch, who died on February 15 at 82. The actress died at home after a brief illness, according to her agents.
“Right now. Raquel Welch is no longer alive. Her beauty and charm lit up movie screens for years.” Deborah took to Twitter shortly after Raquel’s death was confirmed.
Furthermore, Reese, who co-starred with Raquel in the famous 2001 film Legally Blonde, stated, “I was shocked to learn about Raquel Welch’s death. I loved working with her on Legally Blonde. She was incredibly elegant, competent, and glamorous.”
“May she be carried home by all her angels,” the tweet continued. “My heartfelt condolences to her family and all of her admirers.”
In the film, Raquel plays Mrs. Windham Vandermark, Chutney Windham’s mother, who claims that Chutney’s stepmother, Brooke Taylor-Windham, murdered Chutney’s father, Hayworth Windham. Chutney later reveals that she attempted to murder Brooke but killed her father.
“We’ll never forget our great friend Raquel Welch, one of our favorite guests on The Muppet Show,” the Muppets’ official Twitter account wrote. Raquel could do it all, including a duet with Miss Piggy and dancing with a large spider.
Law & Order: SVU actor Christopher Meloni acknowledged Raquel Welch’s death on Twitter, writing, “Raquel Welch dying is a weird sensation.”
“It’s very sad. I had the pleasure of working with Ms. Welch when I was a regular on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and she was amazing,” actor Paul Feig said.
“For most of my childhood, I was madly in love with this actual rockstar. She was sweet, funny, and a rock star.”
Raquel’s manager said in a statement on February 15 that “the iconic bombshell actress of film, television, and stage passed away quietly early this morning following a brief illness.”
“Throughout her 50-year career, she appeared in more than 30 films and 50 television shows. In recent years, the Golden Globe winner has been linked to a massively popular wig brand.”
“Raquel leaves behind her two children, daughter Tahnee Welch and son Damon Welch,” it concluded.
Her most prominent roles include Fantastic Voyage and One Million Years B.C. Her three lines in B.C. were short, but the poster’s images of her in a doe-skin bikini helped make her an iconic figure of the 1960s.
Raquel won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Actress in a Musical or Comedy in 1974 for her performance in The Three Musketeers, alongside Faye Dunaway and Charlton Heston. For her work in Right to Die, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Film (1987).
In 1959, Raquel married James Welch, her childhood sweetheart, for the fourth time. Latanne “Tahnee” Welch and Damon Welch, a boy, and a girl joined the family.
Following their divorce from James, she married producer Patrick Curtis in 1967, but they divorced in 1972. From 1999 to 2004, she married Richard Palmer, the owner of Mulberry Street Pizzeria, after spending ten years with film and television producer Andre Weinfeld from 1980 to 1990.
