Denzel Washington revealed in a recent interview that he turned down a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that could have earned him more than $30 million. His defense was his opposition to what he saw as a “woke” theme. Washington asserted that he did not find it appealing to play a significant character whose concealed homosexuality will eventually come to light.

Despite Marvel’s denials that Thanos or Groot were the characters given to Washington, some fans have speculated that since Washington didn’t go into much detail about the persona he was given, it might have been one of them.

Given the wide range of characters that Marvel represents, it is challenging to identify the particular superhero he was asked to portray. Some fans have even suggested that Agent Carter and Black Widow might be in a romantic relationship.

Washington has been candid about his reluctance to contribute to stories he deems to be “woke.”. He believes that the best places for him to use his acting abilities are in films with a chance of winning awards, such as “Remember the Titans.”.

Despite winning 11 Black Oscars, Washington has chosen not to accept them. Instead, his refrigerator’s top is prominently adorned with his three customary Oscars.
