After much hardship, the Ritter family realized that they would have to send Ritter and his younger brother to a mental hospital. The Humane Society of Hamilton County, Indiana took her in without a doubt and they were saddened to see her plight.
He looked depressed, as if he had given up on life completely. Ritter couldn’t understand why his family left him there. He just knew he wanted them back.
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. To raise awareness about this beautiful dog, shelter staff took photos of him and posted them on social media.
The photo went viral very quickly and was widely shared across all platforms. People saw this sad dog and wanted to help as much as possible.
A new opportunity for Ritter

Shelter worker Megan told WISH-TV in Indiana that she was lucky to be able to take the photo, which she said serves as an example not only for Ritter, but for other animals suffering like her. Coincidentally, this illustrates what many dogs go through in their lives on the streets and in shelters.

In the end, thanks to all the attention Ritter received through social media, he was able to quickly find his forever home and is now living a wonderful life.
His siblings haven’t been lucky enough to find a new family yet, but the shelter staff is doing everything they can for him and all the other dogs there. It’s amazing to see how hard they work to help all dogs live normal lives with caring families.
