An extraordinary occurrence occurred at a three-year-old girl’s burial, shocking everyone present and raising concerns about the timing of the medical error-related early announcement of her passing.
Camila Roxana Martinez Mendoza’s family accused the Salinas de Hidalgo Basic Community Hospital of negligence after the young girl there was declared dead in error.
The tragedy started when Camila’s mother, Mary Jane Mendoza, took her to a pediatrician in Villa de Ramos, where they had grown up, because the child had been suffering from excruciating stomach pain, vomiting, and fever.
The pediatrician realized how serious the situation was and suggested they go to a hospital in the San Luis Potos state in central Mexico to get treated for their dehydration.
She was treated by the medical staff at the Salinas de Hidalgo Basic Community Hospital as soon as she arrived. They performed procedures like cooling her off with a towel and checking her oxygen saturation with a pulse oximeter strapped to one of her fingers.
Camila’s health deteriorated during the day after she was discharged from the hospital with a prescription for paracetamol to treat her pain and fever. A new doctor examined her, gave a different prescription, and advised her mother to give her fruits and water.
Fearful of Camila’s condition worsening, her parents made the decision to seek out additional medical attention. A different doctor strongly recommended that they take her right away to the emergency room.
Between nine and ten o’clock at night, Camila was re-admitted to the Salinas de Hidalgo Basic Community Hospital. m. receiving careful attention from the medical staff at the hospital.
It was difficult for the medical staff to locate Camila’s small veins, making intravenous therapy challenging. After some time, a nurse successfully established an intravenous line and provided the necessary oxygen support.
Around ten minutes later, the medical staff decided to remove the young girl’s intravenous line, and she was taken to a different location to rest. She was still hugging me when they took her away and told me, “You have to let her rest in peace,” Camila’s mother recalled in a heartbreaking moment.’”.
Mendoza’s suffering increased when she was strangely separated from her sick child in a closed room. She made an attempt to go into the space where Camila was being held, but she was unsuccessful. Sadly, it was later discovered that Camila died from dehydration.
The toddler’s viewing and funeral were scheduled for the following day so that friends and family could say their final goodbyes. In the midst of the solemn gathering, Mendoza noticed a strange occurrence: the glass window on Camila’s coffin was misting.
Initially thinking it was just a figment of her imagination, mourners dissuaded Mendoza from opening the coffin. Camila’s paternal grandma quickly assessed the situation out of curiosity; she was startled to see Camila’s eyes moving and amazed to know she still had a pulse.
Camila was returned in an ambulance to the Salinas de Hidalgo Basic Community Hospital as soon as the tragic revelation at the funeral was made. Despite the doctors’ best efforts to revive her, she was once more declared dead due to cerebral edema, a condition characterized by brain swelling.
In a voice choked with sorrow, Mendoza pronounced, “That was truly the end for my baby.”. “My daughter was a happy and loving person. She was friendly to everyone she met and treated them all equally.
We’re devastated as a result.
Mendoza also expressed appreciation for the assistance they received from numerous locals in the community, as everyone adored Camila.
The family had been looking forward to Camila’s first day of school, which was supposed to happen later that week, but sadly. They are deeply saddened by their daughter’s sudden passing and have been left inconsolable.
A death certificate with only dehydration listed as the cause of death was initially given to Camila’s parents. However, it was found that the causes listed on a second death certificate were metabolic failure, cerebral edema, and dehydration.
Mendoza stated that her daughter’s demand for justice had motivated her to demand accountability. She clarified that she held no personal grievances against the medical staff who attempted to save Camila’s life in such a dire situation. To prevent further occurrence of such heartbreaking events, she demands a total reorganization of the medical staff, including the doctors, nurses, and directors.
San Luis Potos’ State Attorney General, Jose Luis Ruiz, is looking into the tragic incident that has drawn a lot of attention. He has acknowledged that an autopsy is currently taking place as part of the ongoing investigation.
