The powerful new song “My Son” by Eddie Montgomery has helped the singer release some of the old pain he has been holding inside for “a long time,” He believes that everything that happened was for a reason.
A man’s fair share of bad luck has befallen the singer for Montgomery Gentry. In a car accident when he was three years old and in a drug overdose in 2015 when he was 19.
Montgomery says that writing “My Son” has helped him cope with his grief after losing Troy Gentry, his musical partner and best friend, in a helicopter crash in 2017.
This song, Montgomery claims, “helped to relieve some of the pain I’d been carrying around for a long time. It was hard at first, but for some reason, it helped”.
“Many of us love people and try to keep our private lives hidden, but when you’re hurting a little, that hurt may emerge through a pencil — and then you know you’ve got to let it out. I did exactly that”.
In the newest Western movie Old Henry, Noah Gordon and Montgomery co-wrote the song “My Son.”. His inspiration for the lyrics came from the film at first, but as the music was being written, it changed and became more intimate.
No lie will be told to you, I promise.
Montgomery declares, “I think T-Roy and my sons helped me write this song.”. They helped me reach the centre of it, and once there, it passed straight through my arm and into my hands. To me, it’s a very sentimental song”.
“My Son” will appear on Montgomery’s upcoming solo album, Ain’t No Shutting Me Down. Tanya Tucker makes a cameo on the single “Higher,” The Wild Bunch, Montgomery Gentry’s backing band for 20 years, also appears on the album”.
Montgomery asserts that while still being his solo debut, the new project honors Gentry’s legacy.
Troy is and always will be by my side. He said, “He helped me write this record,” in a news release. “I got together with some of my best songwriter friends, and we wrote songs about life — the good, the bad, the ugly, and the weekend party”.
