There are real heroes in our community who act wisely. They may not wear clothes, but their hearts are undoubtedly the purest. They give their time and resources to help those in need without expecting anything in return. Their greatest joy is to see a smile on their face!

Our hero today is a man from Detroit in an electrician’s uniform. When he saw two helpless eyes staring at him in the yard of an abandoned house, he knew something was wrong. So he acted immediately!

altruistic mission

A DTE electrician named Mark was working on a nearby abandoned house when he noticed two fur dolls staring at him. Since it was still far away, I decided to get closer.

When he finally got to a reasonable distance, he saw two puppies sitting in the yard. One appears to be injured, but both appear emaciated and malnourished for their age.

Mark slowly approached to gain their trust. But both dogs looked very scared. He wanted to help them, but they kept a safe distance.

“I normally keep treats on my truck but I ran out…they wanted to trust me but they just weren’t sure,” Marc wrote, commenting on the DPCDR post.

He then contacted Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, a non-profit organization specializing in helping injured and sick strays get off the streets. Theresa Sumpter, the organization director, responded immediately.

The DPCDR team arrived at the location that same day. Apparently, the dogs were fed by the local kids, but they lived their life on a street without an owner.

“He reported that one of the pups was injured and both were thin. We went to the location and neighbors reported that some kids had been feeding these dogs but that they were strays,” the DPCDR team wrote.

For about 30 minutes, the cubs debated whether or not to approach Sumter, but he eventually won them over with kindness. It took some patience, sweet talk and good food, but the dogs warmed to the rescue.

come home forever

After putting both dogs down, Sumpter took them to the vet hospital for an initial checkup. In both Guan and Eye Hospital, they were very shy and introverted and seemed to have no idea what was going to happen.

Sumpter and the team were patient, knowing the dogs (later named Grace and Mercy) would need time to adjust to their new environment.

They may have spent their entire lives on the streets, away from anything that could be considered social activity with other creatures. Then, after two weeks of intense interaction, something amazing happened! Both Grace and Mercy are new dogs around their owners. They came out of their shells and started to feel comfortable with the Hoomans.

I guess just a little love made these adorable puppies start believing again. Now that they have a whole new life at home, both are available for adoption. After going through all these puppies, finding a loving family to show them what life is really about is what they really deserve! And I hope it happens soon!
