Moments later, when a car that seemed to appear out of nowhere struck him, he remembered his mother opening her window to thank him for his kindness.
“I missed the moment the car struck him. The sound and him flying across the intersection are the only things I can recall, the man said. He left one of his socks and his shoes right in front of our car. ”.
Thankfully, his little sister, who was also in the vehicle, was preoccupied with the ducks and missed the collision. Rivara’s kids, however, were in a passing car and saw their dad get struck.
In the immediate aftermath of the collision, William’s mother consoled his two young children.
Another 12-year-old who was present during the horrifying accident built a temporary monument in Rivara’s honor after it occurred.
In remembrance of the father who assisted the baby ducks in crossing the street, the young child placed flowers and rubber ducks close to the intersection.
The 12-year-old said, “You should honor him because he was being really kind and then something terrible happened to him. He was a wonderful person. ”.
The incident is still being looked into. Police believe there won’t be any charges because the driver hasn’t been detained as of yet.
