When a stray dog named Brownie was eventually adopted and spent time in a foster home, he got his first taste of what a loving home could offer a pup like himself.

Unfortunately, Brownie had four failed adoptions while in a shelter in New Mexico. So, in hopes of giving him another chance, staff were able to transport him to a shelter in Colorado.

Brownie had to be temporarily placed in a nursing home while he waited to be transferred to a new home. There he meets the Anara family.

At Foster’s

Brownie’s first days in her new home were not as easy as she expected.

This cute puppy encountered some difficulties while trying to figure out what house training is. But everything changed when he finally realized that he was surrounded by people who could really help him. It took him just a few days to learn how to properly communicate with his foster children and tell them exactly what they needed.

“He was terrified at first. He didn’t know what to do. Eventually, he would alert me if he had to go to the bathroom. He would sit by the door and cry,” said Molly Analore.

It didn’t take long for Molly to figure out Brownie’s way of communicating about everyday matters.

But one night, Brownie did something very unusual. Instead of telling Molly what he needed, he now tried to tell her that it was her who needed his help.

Intuitive puppy

Brownie begins experiencing fainting and dizziness before coming into Molly’s care. Molly fell ill one night while Brownie was nearby, and this observant pup immediately picked up her scent. He doesn’t really like cuddles, but he jumped on my couch and sat next to me and started cuddling me. I thought, “That’s a bit strange,” but then I didn’t think anything else.

Molly decided to use the rare opportunity and cuddle Brownie before moving to her bed and lying down since she was still unwell.

However, Brownie, who was usually reserved, just wouldn’t leave her be.

When I went to bed, he was outside my door screaming his head off, scratching at the door and headbutting the door. That wasn’t normal for him. It was almost like he was trying to say, ‘Something’s wrong, let me in now.’

Molly quickly jumped out of bed, opened the door, and let the determined puppy inside.

He jumped on my bed and sat next to me with his head on my chest, and when my heart stopped beating and I felt better, he got up and left. Molly also said this behavior was not something Brownie had done before, and that he never did it again after the fainting episodes stopped.

Forever home

After spending two wonderful weeks with the Annaler family, Brownie was eventually moved to a shelter in Colorado as planned.

He is currently living with another foster family, but the Analol family hopes to take him back and adopt him permanently. A dog like this only appears once in a lifetime. The connection was very strong.
