You never know when your life will change. Lena was definitely surprised that day.
As she was storing her car at her home in South Carolina, an unknown creature snuck into her garage and jumped on her car. When she finally realized that it was a stray dog, her heart immediately sped up. As a dog owner and a big dog lover, she couldn’t escape her fate. That same night, Lena and her family made a surprising decision.
Unexpected encounter
From the moment she saw him look at her with the kindest, sweetest eyes, Lena knew that this stray was no ordinary dog.
“I had my garage all the way open. I kind of see this little creature just walk past my garage and jump into my car,” Lena told The Dodo.
Later named JD, he instantly warmed up to her and shook his head “No” to her request to get out of the car.

Lena and J.D quickly developed a great relationship and that same night, she and her husband decided to let him stay in their garage.
The dog appeared to have mange, so the family didn’t want to take any chances. The next morning, he was taken to the vet, where he received some surprising news. It turned out that J.D. had a severe skin allergy to fleas.
Sweetest lover
Once they found out J.D. was not contagious, they immediately took him home. Lena’s other dog, Bear, was a little wary at first and kept his distance from JD, but his human siblings soon got into play mode.
It’s clear that JD stole everyone’s hearts right away, and being able to keep him in his family was his greatest gift.
After a few weeks, J.D. was always playing with his toys and playing with his siblings as if he were part of the family. The bear finally accepted his new brother and welcomed him into the herd.
He had to take medicated baths until he fully recovered. Thanks to his “chosen” mother, J.D. is finally able to erase all of his past and start a new life as a young boy.
But JD’s favorite place seems to be Lena’s car and he loves jumping in and lying there like he did on his first day. Whenever the family wants to go somewhere, he is always first in line.
But J.D. can never say no to a good night’s sleep in his cozy dog bed.
He loves to relax and enjoy quiet time with his loved ones. JD is absolutely loving his new home in South Carolina. It took me a while to come out of my shell, but I definitely feel like part of the family now.
“I feel like his personality has always kind of been there, but in the beginning it was definitely a little bit more laid back. I definitely feel accomplished,” says Lena.
JD used to roam the city looking for a place to sleep, but now he is the luckiest and happiest dog in the area.
