My mother was great at making never-boring school lunches when I was a child. One thing on which I could rely: My lunchbox always contained sandwiches that were neatly wrapped in wax paper. I’ve found that this waterproof paper can be used for a lot more than just PB&J now that I own my own house and have a Pinterest account. Line cabinets are just one example. It is frequently used to line cabinet shelves, but the tops should also be covered. Wax paper is very good at picking up dust (see No. 5) As a result, you won’t need to scrub every few months; all you need to do is change the paper. You can also try it on top of your fridge.
sanitize faucets. To keep fingerprints and water spots off of chrome faucets, knobs, and other fixtures, use wax paper to wipe them down. Fair warning… ends up, dryer sheets work for this, as well!
Get a can opener clean. Apply the wax to the gears of the can opener to keep the blade moving in a smooth manner. The can’s edges won’t become dangerously jagged as a result.
Seal the wooden tools. Buffing a balled-up piece of wax paper over wooden spoons, spatulas, and other similar items will keep them safe. You can also try it on wooden cutting boards and serving bowls.
Create a funnel. Make a cone out of a piece of paper, insert it into a jar, and pour the contents inside. Spices and hardware can now be added to jars with much less effort. Additionally, the wax paper can be tossed afterward.
Avoid microwave spills. Wax paper can be used to protect food from splatters before they spread throughout your microwave. Unlike some plastics, it is microwave-safe to a tee.
Cork a bottle of wine. Wrap a small piece of wax paper around the cork of a bottle of wine before sealing it for the night to make opening it simpler in the future. Additionally, the wax will adhere to the bottleneck, strengthening the seal. (Fresher wine means a tighter seal.
Un-stick a zipper. Wax paper can be used to give a zipper’s teeth extra power to slide. The wax should be as close to the pull as possible.
Make the curtains move. Wipe wax paper across a curtain rod to make it easier for your drapes to open and close. Imagine how much trouble could have been avoided on Twin Peaks if Nadine had been aware of this trick.)
Gather dust. Are the Swiffer Sweeper cloths empty? Put a sheet of wax paper in the sweeper and it will work like a charm to pick up dust.
Adjust an iron. Waxing the soleplate—the metal part of your iron—with wax paper will help it sail across fabrics.
Create a fire. Shredded wax paper is an excellent substitute for firewood. Bring a zip-top bag filled with strips of pine bark if you don’t want to look for them while camping so you can get to the s’mores making faster.
Keep candles safe. Roll votive or pillar candles in this handy paper before storing them to prevent the dyes from leaching into other candles or nearby linens.
