It has been 45 years since Cheryl Tiegs, the first supermodel in history, wooed men with her enduring pink bikini billboard image.
Since then, she has made numerous magazine covers, including those for Sports Illustrated, Vogue, Glamour, and Time. Later, she used her fame to promote environmental protection while putting her own wellbeing and health first.
In spite of this, Tiegs has come under fire for, among other things, charging Sports Illustrated with “glamorizing” a “full-figured model.”. ”.
Tiegs, 75, who was born and raised in Alhambra, a neighborhood close to Pasadena, started her modeling career after a friend suggested it.
Tiegs said, adding that she gradually pursued modeling while in school, “I thought models were from another planet, and it was just out of the question.”. She mostly performed at department store parking lot fashion shows, initially for free and then for $5 per hour, which she later recalled as being “great money for me at the time.”. I was thrilled. In a multi-page swimsuit spread when she was only 17 years old, Tiegs caught the attention of Glamour magazine, who immediately hired her for a shoot on the island of St. even before they had a chance to meet.
