OceanGate Expeditions reports that a search for one of its submersibles that went missing in the Atlantic Ocean is still going on.
Finding a missing submersible with five people on board who lost contact close to the Titanic wreck is the focus of a search and rescue operation.
The company claims that while transporting guests to the well-known wreck, one of OceanGate Expeditions’ submersibles reportedly vanished in the Atlantic Ocean.
In the Atlantic on Sunday, 435 miles south of the Canadian province of Newfoundland, the submersible vanished.
The Polar Prince, an icebreaker that OceanGate hired, was initially run by the Canadian Coast Guard before The Titan joined an expedition with them.
A number of dives were intended to be performed at the disaster site in the North Atlantic by the Titan, which also carried the submersible vessel.
According to OceanGate, Titan has a 96-hour supply of oxygen on board, meaning that there are currently only about two days of “life support” left.
The OceanGate company, based in the US, operates the Titan, a small submersible that can be used for exploration, research, and business purposes.
Tickets for an eight-day trip that includes dives to the wreck cost $250,000 (£195,000).
The Titan’s 13,120-foot maximum dive depth is advertised by the manufacturer as having “comfortable safety margins.”.
The ship took about two hours to get to the Titanic wreck, which is located at a height of 12,500 feet in an Atlantic trench.
The ship, which weighs about 23,000 pounds (10,432 kilograms), sends a message back to those on land every 15 minutes to let them know it is safe.
Sky News is informed, though, as the pings have stopped.
OceanGate claimed that the Titan had an “unparalleled safety feature” that continuously evaluated the hull’s integrity in a court document from May 2021.
At the time of the application, Titan had performed more than 50 test dives, including one to a depth comparable to that of the Titanic, according to the company.
OceanGate claimed in a court document filed in November that on a trip in 2022, the submersible experienced a battery problem and needed to be physically connected to its lifting platform.
How about the rescue operation?
The operation is extremely difficult due to its remoteness and depth, despite the presence of US and Canadian ships and aircraft.
It’s also unknown whether the Titan has surfaced but lost contact or is submerged.
Rear Admiral John Mauger of the US Coast Guard claims that due to its isolation, the area is difficult to search.
The message read, “We are employing our resources to find the craft and save everyone on board. ”.
To determine where the submersible will launch from, the Polar Prince has been ordered. Two Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft and a Canadian Boeing P-8 Poseidon surveillance plane also made overflights.
According to the statement from OceanGate Expeditions, the company was “mobilizing all options” to save everyone on board.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported on Wednesday that sonar equipment had heard thumping noises every 30 minutes on Tuesday.
Four hours later, additional sonar equipment was set up, but the hammering continued, according to the report.
According to the US Coast Guard, remote underwater vehicles were moved in response to reports of banging, but the searches have not yet turned up any information.
There are currently no Titanic submersible updates available; however, “underwater noises” were discovered during a hurried search.
