Marie Osmond’s career has been a true success story. Still, to this day, the beloved singer, performer, and entrepreneur is giving fans across the globe a show to remember, and she has no plans on stopping.
Less than a year ago, she reunited on stage with her brother, Donny. But no one knows if it will ever happen again.
Since then, Marie Osmond has come under fire from her fans because of a video posted on her social media. Some people have accused her of going under the knife, accusing her of being “one step away from looking like Michael Jackson.”
Few celebrities have had the same success in as many fields as Marie Osmond. The superstar singer, known for her great affection towards her fans through social media, has spent over six decades in show business.
Osmond became an international superstar through her singing, television performances, dancing, acting, and authorship. She’s a well-known talk show host and public speaker, adored worldwide.
Now, Marie Osmond is 63 years old. While she doesn’t plan to slow down, her fans have gotten worried that their idol has done something to her face in the form of plastic surgery. One even called her “Kim Kardashian.”
Marie Osmond – early life
Marie Osmond was born Oct. 13, 1959 in Ogden, Utah. She was the only girl out of nine children, and was introduced to the world of show business at a young age.
Several of her brothers already sang on national television, and it wouldn’t be long until Marie joined in. In 1962, The Osmonds were a regular act on The Andy Williams Show, and a couple of years later, while still just a child, Marie joined in.
Marie’s mother thought her only daughter should also pursue a career in music. Brother Donny Osmond was a teen star, and soon, Marie would join him on stage.
She signed with the family music label and soon became a solo artist. At 12 years old, she went into her first recording session, an experience she recalls as “the most terrifying.”
“It was a full orchestra and rhythm section. I was the only Osmond girl, what if I failed?” Marie said in 2015. “So I threw up! Then I went in and sang.”
In contrast to her brothers, who mostly made pop music, Marie Osmond focused on more country-style music. In 1973, at only 14 years of age, she released her first single, Paper Roses, which was a huge success.
The song sent her to the top in music, becoming the No. 1 US country hit and reaching the Top 5 on the Billboard magazine pop chart. Still a teenager, Marie was also a European star, with Paper Roses at No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart.
A year later, Marie Osmond released her debut album, My Little Corner of the World, which reached the Billboard Country Top 40 the same year.
Success with ‘Donny & Marie’
The now well-known singer would take it to the next level the following year. Her talent on stage eventually led her to star alongside her brother Donny, who had great success with the group The Osmonds. Now, he would team up with her sister for the TV show Donny & Marie.
The entertainment show aired on ABC for the first time in 1975 and starred the two siblings singing and co-hosting. It became a country-wide success, with Donny and Marie always ending the show with the classic song May Tomorrow Be a Perfect Day.
The show also included guest stars, with many celebrities like Chuck Berry, Paul Anka, Sonny & Cher, and Olivia Newton-John also making appearances.
Donny and Marie reunited on stage later on, spending 11 years singing and dancing onstage at the Flamingo Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. The siblings finished their stint in Vegas in 2019.
Marie Osmond would move on to become an even more successful musician, reaching international stardom and fame. She’s a multiple platinum and gold-selling artist, winning awards from prominent bodies like the Country Music Association (CMA).
She also has three New York Times Best-selling books and has toured worldwide performing live and starring in Broadway performances.
The Osmonds received a single star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013, honoring siblings Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, Donny, Jimmy, and, of course, Marie for their decades of work in entertainment.
Just like her mother, Marie would go on to have many children. Three of them are her biological children, and five are adopted.
Marie Osmond – family, marriages, children
She’s been married three times. In 1982, she wed her first husband, basketball player Steve Lyle Craig, with the couple welcoming their son Stephen Jr a year later.
They parted ways in 1985, with Marie, one year later, marrying Brian Blosil. They had two children and adopted five more.
“It was so hard for me to get back on the stage two weeks after he died but I had to show my children that I chose to live,” Marie Osmond told Fox in 2013. “It was very hard and we talk about it, that’s the other thing. I know there are other families that won’t talk about it. Just as much as I lost a son, my children lost a brother and they still need to process it.”
Marie and Brian got divorced in 2007 after spending two decades together. Her fans would also get a shock later on when she remarried Steve, her first husband, in May 2011. One of the most shocking aspects of their ceremony was that she wore the same dress from her 1982 wedding!
In an interview with Good Morning America, Osmond revealed that she and Steve had kept their relationship a secret for two years. However, when their son Stephen Jr was getting married, they decided to go public and tie the knot once again.
“Stephen was getting married and we realized we can’t go to our son’s wedding and not be married,” Marie told People. “So we got married a few months before he did. He joked that he never thought it would happen, but it did!”
“The thing about a second marriage is that you realize things you thought were so important, aren’t,” Marie continued. “I love being with my husband. He is the sweetest man I know. He lives to serve and really listens to people’s needs.”
Reunited with brother Donny
As mentioned, Marie and her brother Donny ended their Las Vegas residency in 2019. However, Donny Osmond continued. Although many thought there was a conflict between the two, it appeared they were prioritizing their own lives, which is all about the children.
However, Marie reunited onstage with her brother during one of Danny’s Las Vegas shows in November last year.
Marie and Donny performed their hit song I’m A Little Bit Country, I’m A Little Bit Rock’ N’ Roll together. Donny posted a photo with his arm around his beloved sister through his Twitter account, with the caption: “Together Again.”
He said: “Words cannot express how great it was to see my sweet sister at my show on Saturday night at Harrah’s Las Vegas.
“During the Request Segment of my show, someone yelled out, ‘Sing I’m A Little Bit Country, I’m A Little Bit Rock & Roll.’ I went out to the booth where Marie was sitting, and we sang our theme song once again together. The crowd went wild. I wish everyone could have seen it. I’ll remember that moment for the rest of my life. Thank you, Sis. I love you.”
In 2021, Marie Osmond released her latest album, Unexpected, where the performer sang in several languages and even performed opera. It opened at No. 1 on the Billboard Classical Crossover Album list in December 2021.
“This is my sixth decade of working and to be a female that’s been able to work every year consistently has just been mind-boggling to me and very much appreciated by my fans,” she told the Toledo Blade. “This album I did strictly to push myself. Some people play multiple instruments, I do multiple singing styles.”
“My skin needs a little extra help”
“As a child, I was the weird Osmond because I enjoyed all different kinds of music,” she continued. “Yes, I’m country; that’s what I chose to be, but it was very easy for me to sing pop because my brothers did. But I loved country, and I loved the realism and the lyrics, and I loved that women could have lives and children and families and still have a career.”
While Marie Osmond continues her passion for making music, she has also become an entrepreneur. She created the product line MD Complete, designed to provide dermatologist-level skin care results without ever having to step into any doctor’s office.
According to herself, it has had a tremendous effect on her skin.
“I’ve been in entertainment for years, under bright lights and wearing heavy makeup so my skin needs a little extra help,” she explained.
“[The line] matches laser treatments—this product is like laser in a bottle,” Marie added. “The side-by-side images of what it can do are amazing.”
Meanwhile, Osmond also reveals that she has done some in-office treatment.
“I’ve done [fraxel] laser which has good results but it was so rough in healing,” Osmond shared. “The recovery is brutal and I just don’t have time for it. Once I was embarrassed to go on stage even after 10 days of healing post-laser.”
Marie Osmond – plastic surgery
Marie Osmond has admitted to having plastic surgery once. She felt her breasts were too big and went under the knife to make them smaller for her back to fully function.
“I had very large breasts,” Marie revealed in 2013. “I had a breast reduction. I was my mother’s daughter. I was, like, twenty-something. When I did Sound of Music, all they did was talk about the hills were alive! That’s all they saw were my boobs. I was like an E cup.”
It’s well-known that it’s pretty standard in the entertainment industry. Stars such as Jamie Lee Curtis and Courteney Cox have been open about their procedures in the past. Now, Marie Osmond’s fans are furious at their beloved star. Why? They believe she’s had something done to her lips.
In December last year, Marie Osmond posted a picture of herself on Instagram, which left fans accusing her of going through plastic surgery.
“As women, our bodies change as we age, and it’s not as easy to lose weight anymore,” Marie Osmond captioned her post. “What worked before may not work anymore. That’s why I teamed up with the experts @nutrisystem to help develop a plan specifically for Women ages 55+.”
Some believed her physical changes resulted from plastic surgery, and one even suggested the Osmond sister is “one step away from looking like Michael Jackson.”
Fans say Marie Osmond looks like Kim Kardashian
“Never thought Marie Osmond Would be so [vain] to mess up her once beautiful face!” one person wrote, as reported by Yahoo.
“OK, you’re a beautiful woman! Stop putting all those fillers into your lips,” another added.
“That don’t even look like you! You must [have] had [too] many facelifts,” a third person claimed.
“You look like Kim Kardashian now,” a fourth stated.
