The tennis champion recently said, following the go-ahead, “It’s still hanging over your shoulder, no matter what.”.

The tennis legend Martina Navratilova recently announced that she was cancer-free, but her battle with the illness had a negative physical and psychological impact.

Navratilova, 66, discussed her health after receiving a throat and breast cancer diagnosis at the end of last year during an interview with ITV’s Good Morning Britain on Monday. She was joined by her wife, Real Housewives of Miami actress Julia Lemigova.

It has been seven months of emotional and physical hell for me, she said, adding that I was diagnosed in early December and just recently received the all-clear.

The tennis champion remarked after being given the all-clear, “It’s still hanging over your shoulder, no matter what. The treatment, which included proton radiation therapy, was “horrendous,” Navratilova continued, even though her disease was largely curable. ”.

She told the publication, “Chemotherapy and radiation — it beat me up.”. Physically, it was brutal. It still hangs over your shoulder, regardless of what transpires. There is no getting around it. Even though I felt completely helpless, at least I had mental control. Julia, however, was helpless in this circumstance. She was initially terrified. Both of us were frightened. ”.

Lemigova, who was at the time filming RHOM but “would come in and out” to be with her, provided her with support. She continued, “Of course, Chris Evert and I had essentially experienced the same thing and supported each other.

Navratilova added that the competition caused her to lose nearly 25 pounds. “It’s been challenging, but, knock on wood, I’m cancer-free now. ”.

Lemigova said that the incident altered her outlook on life during the interview. “A tragedy like this teaches you to view life differently.
Enjoy each moment and live life as it comes.
We’re dealing with Martina in a similar manner. We give God thanks and praise every day and view life in a completely new way. ”.

“All the physicians, nurses, proton and radiation magicians, etc.,” Navratilova said in her thank-you speech. After “a day full of tests at Sloan Kettering,” the nine-time Wimbledon champion tweeted on Twitter last month.

She tweeted, smiling, “What a relief,” along with the hashtags “byebyecancer:) and yes, f— cancer!!!”.

Despite being told that her condition was “very” treatable, Navratilova acknowledged that she was “in a total panic for three days thinking I might not see next Christmas. ”.

Lemigova claimed to have been by Navratilova’s side when she received the all-clear in an interview from March. “Throughout the good, bad, and ugly, I was there for her. It is therefore no secret that I was present when she was given the cancer diagnosis. I was with her, of course, when she got the good news. There was nothing else for me to do. We had a celebration on that day. ”.

In a Washington Post article published earlier this month, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert—former tennis rivals—discussed their friendship and recent cancer diagnoses. After being informed that she had ovarian cancer, Evert recalled that one of the first people she told was Martina. When I called her, it was like coming home. ”.

13 years after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis, Navratilova received the all-clear in 2010. When asked about her initial diagnosis, Navratilova said, “It really knocked me on my ass. When something happens, I suddenly lose control of my life and my body, which makes me feel very powerless. ”.
