In their final year of college, Andrea West met the man who would become her husband. Soon after graduating, they got engaged and moved back to Andreas’ hometown. They got married after only a few short years, and soon after that they could tell their loved ones that Andrea was expecting their first child. She was ecstatic, Andrea. However, the joy quickly gave way to sorrow after just eleven weeks. Andrea lost the baby.
Andrea stated the following on the Facebook page Love What Matters: “I was a complete wreck. I was at a loss for what to do, who to talk to, what topics to broach, or who could offer me assistance. I had no idea that 1 in 4 women experienced the same problems, and nobody ever talks about them. I wasn’t sure if I could ever manage getting pregnant again. With her supportive husband’s assistance, Andrea’s anxiety eventually subsided. Fortunately, she became pregnant once more.
She vowed she would take every precaution necessary to ensure her child’s healthy development this time.
Cold-cut meats, sushi, and some cheeses were among the foods she gave up.
Additionally, she started reading pregnancy books nonstop in the hope that everything would be fine this time. She served her term without incident, as it turned out. Right on schedule, she went to the hospital and was admitted with her partner into a delivery room.
Until an ultrasound revealed she had little to no amniotic fluid left, she was about to be sent home. They had to start labor induction right away. Thankfully, everything went well during the birth. Before the night was over, Adam, a son, was born to Andrea and her husband. However, the planned umbilical cord cutting by Andrea’s partner was never able to happen. Instead, a confused flurry of medical personnel quickly rushed Adam away from his parents. Over the shoulders of some medical professionals, Andrea’s husband saw his son. There’s something wrong with Adam’s leg, honey,” he said as he turned back to face Andrea. ”.
Around young Adam, twenty people had gathered. The longer it went without a response, the more concerned Andrea became. Andrea lay in the ward alone when her mother and partner went outside to tell her family what had happened. But nobody ever explained to her what was wrong with her child. It turned out that his entire right leg and the right side of his stomach were marbling purple and black.
Adam was eventually diagnosed with Cutis Marmorata Telangiectatica Congenita (CMTC), an extremely rare vascular malformation (the birth in this image has nothing to do with the story).
Andrea and her husband were at a loss for words. There had only ever been 500 cases of the illness reported worldwide before their son was born. Fortunately, Adam passed all of the tests that were performed on his vital organs. Andrea didn’t sleep for four days because she spent so much time in the NICU. Finally, Adam was allowed to return home with strict instructions on how to take care of his skin. But as time passed, it became increasingly clear that Adam was a real fighter. He is now a cheerful, healthy young man who enjoys math and playing chess. While his condition causes his leg to be weak, he has even been able to participate in sports.

Throughout it all, Adam has never perceived his disability as a barrier, despite the fact that he is aware of his slight differences from the other kids. Andrea West is still very active in CMTC Alliance, a worldwide nonprofit that supports people with rare vascular malformations. She is a fierce advocate for those who are impacted by these conditions and works tirelessly to raise awareness of them. Consider sharing Adam’s story and making a donation if you’d like to support the organization and assist more people with rare diseases. Your contribution may have a significant impact on the lives of people dealing with rare diseases.

The West family is content right now, despite the fact that Adam may have had a difficult start in life. So that more people can see this incredible story, share this article with your Facebook friends!
