2015 saw the tardiness of a 6-year-old Grants Pass, Oregon boy. Nicole, Hunter’s mother, was aware that due to car troubles, his family would probably have to go to jail.
Nicole decided to stop by his school for lunch as a result. She wanted to check on him to see how he was doing, but she got much more than she expected.
Nicole saw her son being subjected to what many would consider a public humiliation rather than seeing him in detention. It is sufficient to say that she was not pleased.
Hunter was seated by himself when Nicole arrived at the school. The 6-year-old’s face was shielded by a partition so he couldn’t see or communicate with anyone else. Hunter sat sobbing while clutching a cup that had the letter “D” on it. (to be detained).
Nicole was furious with the school for how they treated her child, as any mother would be. She rarely arrived late to school, so Hunter’s rage was increased by the fact that she didn’t arrive late enough that day to make up any missed assignments.
Knowing she had to act, Nicole snapped a photo of Hunter in the dining hall. Later, she shared it on social media.
When Nicole’s photo went viral, other people in Grants Pass made the decision to assist. They made a pact that Hunter wouldn’t miss class ever again.
Few days later, Nicole and her family—which included Marc—went to Kelly’s Automotive Service with the expectation that their car would be deemed beyond repair. They were instead given the keys to a Chrysler van thanks to the efforts of their community.
Grants Pass residents carried out a kind act that will greatly benefit Nicole and her family, demonstrating that where there is love, there is always hope.
