One of the most selfless things a person can do is adopt a child.
Many of us have families that love us and give us all the security and love we could ever want as we grow up in kind, compassionate homes. Unfortunately, many people lack access to those same fundamental but essential elements.
Simply put, thousands of children in the US reside in foster care, unsure of when they will find their forever families. They are forced, through no fault of their own, to grow up in a situation that no child should ever experience.
But one little girl, placed in a Safe Haven Baby Box and later adopted by a policeman, will never have to worry about that.
Bruce Faltynski, a police officer with the Mishawaka PD in Indiana, and his wife Shelby reportedly decided to adopt earlier this year.
They adopted their daughter Kaia, who is eight years old, in March, but it was obvious that they still felt like their family was incomplete.
When they completed the adoption of baby Myah, who had been given up by her mother at a Safe Haven Baby Box earlier this year, last Friday, that final piece of the puzzle was finally added to their predicament.
Bruce said, “We appreciate Myah’s birth mother; she made a brave choice.
According to reports, Myah was initially hospitalised after being discovered in the safety box. As determined by the doctors, she had a stroke, but Bruce said the young child has recovered and is progressing as expected.
According to the SHBB website, a Baby Box is “a safety device provided for under state’s Safe Haven Law and legally permits a mother in crisis to safely, securely, and anonymously surrender if they are unable to care for their newborn.”.
“A designated fire station or hospital has a Baby Box installed in one of the exterior walls. It has an interior door that enables a medical staff member to secure the surrendered newborn from inside the designated building and an exterior door that locks automatically when a newborn is placed inside the Baby Box. “.
I’m not sure how you feel about Baby Boxes, but no one can deny that, in this particular case, they played a part in something extraordinary for this specific case.
