Unfortunately, there are many cases around the world where dogs are treated absolutely poorly. Fortunately, there are also many kind rescuers here who are willing to do whatever they can to help these animals.
Rescuing Lisa
That’s why when Little Steps Matter rescuer Sabina and her colleagues found a severely malnourished dog tied to a pole and looking for food with its head in a garbage bag, their hearts went out into their hands. It was shattered.
They could not hold back their tears as they approached the completely unafraid puppy and untied the rope and let it go. But after picking her up and transporting her to where she would eventually be cared for, the two rescuers were relieved to know that the pup would never be so abused again.
A Safe Haven for Lisa
The pup, now named Lisa, was in pretty bad shape and rescuers knew she couldn’t have gotten this bad in just a few days…she had been left alone for so long.
“It was so cruel that somebody left her behind like this. They tied her up so she couldn’t run after them when they dumped her,” Sabine told The Dodo.
Rescuers immediately took Lisa to a veterinary hospital where she was thoroughly examined.
Road to Recovery
The vet determined she had severe dehydration, mange, and even early stage cancer.
He was put on an IV and monitored 24 hours a day at a veterinary hospital.
Positive Progress
Just two days after coming to the clinic, Lisa’s health began to improve.
“She had a bit more energy and was greeting us happily, wagging her tail. After five days Lisa was allowed to leave the clinic and came home to our safehouse,” she added.
When Lisa arrived at her new home, she was a little confused at first. Everyone treated her with so much love and care, but she wasn’t used to it and didn’t know what to do with herself.
New Life for Lisa
Fortunately, it didn’t take long for him to realize that this lifestyle was actually the right way to live.
Lisa’s mood improved day by day, and with the sparkle in her eyes she showed everyone how happy she was.
After just 10 days at the shelter, this beautiful pup completely came out of his shell. She had gained a lot of weight and her beautiful fur was starting to grow back. Four weeks later, Lisa was cancer-free.
“She was a bit overwhelmed at first, but our pack is always very gentle with newcomers, and she was settling in with all so well. Lisa totally started to blossom and became a playful teenager with a gentle and loving nature,” said Sabine.
Looking to the Future
Now that she looks and feels like a brand new dog, Lisa’s life has completely changed. She is now an energetic dog who loves playing with people, having fun, and running around everywhere, especially at the beach.
She’s also looking for her forever home!
Lisa is a little mixed race girl and she is about 1 year old. She will be a little shy at first, but once she knows she is not in danger she will open up. If you or someone you know is interested in adopting this cute pup, please contact Little Steps Matter for more information.
