Workers on a construction site in Canary Wharf, London, noticed strange movements in one of the pits and discovered a helpless puppy struggling to stay afloat.
Realizing he couldn’t escape alone, they worked together to get the desperate animal out of the mud pit. The puppy was lying on the edge, covered from head to toe in a thick layer of dried mud.
When the local hospital treated him, the vet discovered he wasn’t a puppy!

Madsey, who was later taken to South Essex Wildlife Hospital in Orsett, England, was moments from her death when nearby staff found her stuck in a deep, muddy pit. It was completely covered in mud. I was so weak I couldn’t stand up. He was a lost child who happened to fall into a well. I can’t go out. No one knew how long he had been in that pit, but he certainly would have stayed there if the workers hadn’t found him.
One thing was clear. He urgently needed veterinary intervention, as he could not live without serious veterinary help!

South Essex Wildlife Hospital arranged for staff to pick him up and clean his dirty coat. A long brush was needed because his fur was completely covered in thick mud.
After washing the poor boy, the hospital staff were surprised to discover that he wasn’t a puppy! It was a 4-month-old fox cub!

He was immediately given food and water and this sweet baby recovered from the shock! The vet named him “Muddsey” as a symbolic tribute to the condition in which he was found. The vet confirmed that Mudsy would have died if the staff hadn’t found her. It was heartbreaking to see her helpless, stressed and completely devastated, but the good news is that Maddsey finally gets a chance to start over. Thank you to those who did not hesitate to save Maddsi and give her a second chance at life!
