Mitchell County Animal Rescue, Inc., located in North Carolina, received a surprising call on July 5th regarding a frightened dog found near a highway. Initially presumed to be a runaway scared off by fireworks, the situation took an unexpected turn.

A Frightening Encounter

Witnesses observing Fourth of July fireworks in Northern California spotted an animal darting beneath their car, mistaking it for a fox. Upon closer inspection, they discovered it was a distressed little dog. Despite initial difficulty coaxing her out, the couple managed to safely transport her to their home.

At the Shelter

With dawn breaking the following day, the concerned couple brought the trembling pup to the Mitchell County Animal Shelter. Staff members were taken aback when they noticed a missing poster for a senior dog named Fiona, resembling the dog in their care. A scan of the dog’s microchip confirmed their suspicions.

Heartfelt Reunion

Upon contacting Fiona’s owner, the shelter shared the heartwarming news. Fiona’s reunion with her owner was filled with joy and relief, marking the end of a month-long separation. While Fiona’s family was overjoyed to have her back, the Williams family, who had briefly fostered her, couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sadness at saying goodbye to the sweet pup they had cared for overnight.
