The actor’s daughter Drena De Niro revealed the circumstances surrounding her son’s demise.
On Sunday, July 2, Leandro De Niro was found dead, and Drena De Niro, Robert De Niro’s distraught daughter, has now disclosed the cause of death. He was 19.
Drena posted on social media that her cherished son had passed away, but she did not disclose the circumstances of his passing. Despite the absence of an official coroners report, the 51-year-old reportedly stated that Leandro died after ingesting drugs that were laced with fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.
Someone asked Drena about Leandro’s passing on Instagram, and she replied, “Someone sold him fentanyl-laced pills that they knew were laced but still sold to him. To all those people who are still buying and selling this [expletive], my son is now irretrievably lost.
De Niro and his ex-wife Diahnne Abbott raised Drena, who shared the premature death of her son in a social media post, referring to him as “My lovely darling angel.”. Ever since I first felt your presence inside of me, I have loved you in ways that I cannot adequately express. You were the only thing that has ever been true, sincere, and joyful in my life. ”.
“I don’t know how to live without you, but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and happiness that becoming your mother has given me. I wish my admiration and love for you had been strong enough to keep you alive. I’m so sorry, sweetheart. @carlosmare, I’m sorry. Rest in peace and revel in an eternal paradise, my sweet baby. ”.
“I’m extremely saddened by the loss of my loved grandson Leo,” De Niro said in a statement. All of you who have expressed sympathy are greatly appreciated. We respectfully ask for time and space to grieve privately for Leo. ”.
Carlos Mare, my son-in-law and Leandro’s father, posted a terrible statement on Instagram alongside an old photo of him and his son holding hands. He said, “We say goodbye to our beloved son Leo with immeasurable shock and sadness. We sincerely appreciate all of your generosity and assistance, but at this time, we need some time to process our devastating loss.
“Thank you for your encouraging messages. @drenadeniro and our families are appreciative, Carlos wrote in a subsequent message. Love cannot be spelled without Leo.
On Monday, Drena, Carlos, and The Godfather actor were all spotted at Frank E. New York City resident Campbell. Later that evening, Drena wrote another heartbreaking Instagram post in which she described giving her child one final hug.
None of this is right or fair, she wrote, and “while still breathing and barely functioning, my heart hurts in a way I never knew possible.”.
“Leo, my love, I still adore you as much as the day I held you in my arms. At the funeral home, which was driven by the same man who picked us up from the hospital when you were born, I held you for the final time.
Drena continued, “I can’t believe any of this is real. “You were kindness, acceptance, and love. YOU made all things bearable and all difficulties lighter. The only explanation I can think of is that God needed a strong, powerful angel for their army, even though you didn’t deserve to die in such a way. ”.
“Until I am back with you, I will hold onto every second of every moment in my heart and in my memories. My broken heart will always hurt. In addition to your father, your family, and myself, you have my undying love. ”.
