An elderly dog who faithfully stayed by someone’s side for days after their death
In a vast sea of delightful dog stories, Ajax is at the forefront.
This poor boy has spent the last ten years being the happiest dog in the world until the inevitable November 2023. He was left alone in this world and broke the hearts of thousands of people who had to deal with his tragedy.
Like the millions of other dogs that enter America’s animal shelters each year, Ajax suffers the same fate. History of Ajax
Old dogs listen well
On December 7, 2023, the Cruelty Prevention Society in Chicago, Illinois reported Ajax, a Plott Hound mix whose tragic story broke the hearts of many.
This old puppy was a big love mistake all his life until he was recently found guarding the body of his owner who died tragically. Confused and traumatized by this terrible experience, Ajax ended up going to ACS. According to Tim, she still hasn’t fully accepted that her love interest is gone and stands at the doghouse door every day hoping he’ll come back to take her back. Puppy wearing a green scarf
After the team scanned his microchip, they realized that Ajax had been adopted from a dog shelter in Illinois about 10 years ago and was now back.
ACS director Lydia Krupinski told Newsweek that the spoiled pup has barely interacted with other dogs since his return. He doesn’t eat as much as he should and has only one thought: his master.
The administrators did everything possible to help Ajax recover from the tragic loss. Although he doesn’t currently show much interest in playing with his shelter friends, Tim found him to be the sweetest baby and loves long cuddle sessions and cozy naps.
hope in a new home An old dog is cared for
So far, the shelter has not been registered with Ajax. What she really needs is a house to call home in her later years and someone to help her move forward.
However, with his story now going viral, the staff really hopes that their Plott Hound boi will find his forever home by Christmas.
The shelter’s Facebook post received hundreds of encouraging comments from people all around the country.
One person wrote: “Sharing and praying also for this precious senior, he deserves to still get love and hugs.” Another one added: “Hope you find someone to love and care for you in your golden years.”
According to Ajax’s caregivers, the best option for him would be a quiet home of adults. He needs people who will take things slow and have patience with his situation, but as soon as he adapts to a new environment, he’s ready to go!

Ajax is a fan of nice, daily walks, and he will definitely accompany you with a big smile on his face. Even though he has put on some extra weight during the past years, he absolutely has no difficulties moving.
Still, those comfy snoozes are probably his favorite thing in the world. And, considering his age, this is not a surprise at all.
We really hope Ajax finds his special someone as soon as possible. After everything he has been through, spending his autumn years in a loving home is all he could ask for.
