Someone does not automatically lose their talent as they get older. On the contrary. On Britain’s Got Talent, Jenny Darren illustrated this with her one-of-a-kind audition. The audience liked her performance and personality even though her song selection was unexpected.
Jenny Darren, 68, has been singing since she was 12 years old, giving her nearly 50 years of experience in the music industry. She has a history that includes providing AC/DC with backup vocals and releasing four of her own albums. Nicko McBrian, a drummer who later joined Iron Maiden, was featured on one of the albums.
After retiring, Jenny decided to pick up music again. Jenny had stopped listening to rock and roll in favor of jazz and classical music. Jenny had made the decision to head back to her roots.
Jenny resembled the stereotypical retired grandma as she made her way across the stage of Britain’s Got Talent while donning a bun, a long dress, and a button-up cardigan. She received a warm welcome from the judges, who then gave her the go-ahead to perform. Jenny, however, asks for a brief pause before unbuttoning her cardigan. The judges seem concerned about what the grandma might be planning as the crowd starts to cheer, unsure of what to expect.
To everyone’s surprise, Jenny threw her cardigan and bulky clothing off the stage. Fortunately, she was hiding something underneath. She stepped in front of the crowd wearing a black leather skirt, black boots, and a black t-shirt. She confidently sauntered back to center stage as AC/DC’s hit song “Highway to Hell” started playing.
The moment Jenny began singing the song, everyone was taken aback. Jenny wowed the audience with her audacity and dynamic singing. Judge David Walliams was so moved by Jenny’s performance that he got up from his chair and started dancing with her. The judges joined in on the well-known chorus as did the rest of the audience. Even the traditional high note was used to close the song.
All four judges as well as the audience gave Jenny a standing ovation for her performance. You must watch her performance because she nailed this song completely.
