Susan Boyle became a star overnight following her audition on Britain’s Got Talent. From that first note she sang all those years ago, I knew she was destined for greatness in her career.

She gained fame, as well as earned millions of dollars through album sales. However, her journey hasn’t all been sunshine and rosesand the singer’s love life has long been the subject of rumors and speculation

Earlier this year, Susan Boyle celebrated her 60th birthday. Turning 60 really is a milestone in life and the famous singer celebrated her special day by publishing previously unseen photographs of her as a child.

It’s quite natural to stop and look in the rearview mirror as you grow older – and Susan Boyle can certainly look back on a remarkable life.

In 2008, the unemployed charity worker lived alone with her cat, Pebbles, and wanted to see if she could make it in show business. After performing I Dreamed a Dream from Les Misérables in front of Simon Cowell and the rest of the Britain’s Got Talent judges, the 47-year-old became a star overnight.

The crazy underdog audition gained her instant recognition across the world. Even today, her journey is inspiring to millions.

“I used to be a kind of spectator looking outward at the world. But now I’m part of that world and, though frightening, I’m going to embrace it,” Boyle said after her breakthrough.

Lives in her childhood home

Even though her career took her around the globe and made her a multi-millionaire, Susan Boyle has always remained honest, down to earth and genuinely caring.

Unlike many other celebrities, she has never flashed her cash; the humble singer still lives in her childhood home in Blackburn, Scotland.

She purchased the modest house in 2010.

”It’s best to be grounded and with your roots. It keeps you grounded and prevents you from saying things maybe you shouldn’t say,” she told OK!.

Susan’s love life

For Susan, it has always been important to keep her private life mostly private. But through interviews and official statements, we know that Susan’s been through a lot of heartache and pain over the years.

Much has been written about her Type 2 diabetes, her inspiring weight loss journey and the feud with her brother. But Susan Boyle’s love life has always been something of a mystery. Some people have questioned why the devout Catholic never had a husband and a family.

So, what’s the deal?

It might not be the whole explanation, but Susan had a very tough upbringing. Nicknamed ”Simple Susan” by her classmates, it’s safe to say she wasn’t the most popular girl with the boys. She never had a boyfriend or a significant romantic relationship during her youth.

Instead, she focused on taking care of her ailing mother – which left little time for dating and chasing boys.

Susan Boyle dating

After her stunning breakthrough on BGT, the tabloids were of course very curious about whether the singing sensation would start dating someone – but nothing seemed to happen.

In 2012, Susan was asked if she was trying to find love through the Internet. But SuBo, as fans dubbed her, told reporters she was too scared to explore that alternative.

“Internet dating? Are you having a laugh? Knowing my luck I’d go out on a date and you’d find my limbs scattered around various Blackburn dustbins!” she joked to the Daily Mirror.

The Britain’s Got Talent legend explained that she believed in letting things happen naturally and that she wasn’t going to ”shop a man on Internet”.

A rather conservative attitude, we can all agree. Susan has previously blamed her single status on her strict, Catholic parents.

‘”My parents were stalwart Catholics, and there was a kind of coded behavior I had to keep to — that’s why I’m still single. Simply put, the right guy hasn’t come along yet,” she said.

However, Susan has always been open about the fact that she wants to meet the love of her life and find a longterm partner.

”If my soulmate is out there then I will find him but it won’t be on a computer. Of course I’d like that special someone in my life, but I’m not going to let a man define me. I’ve done pretty well over the past 51 years without one but it would be nice,” the Scottish star said.

Secret romance in Florida

But it would take many years before the world class singer even had a little glimpse of romance in her life. But once it happened, sparks flew.

According to Susan Boyle, she met ”the perfect gentleman” during her U.S. tour in 2014. The man, an American doctor from Connecticut, stayed at the same luxury hotel as Susan in Florida and was a big fan.

The pair enjoyed a secret, romantic lunch on the first date.

At the age of 53, it seemed that Susan had gotten her first boyfriend.

“It’s very early days so we’ll see what happens. I hope he comes over,” Boyle told The Sun after she returned to Europe.

However, Susan didn’t want to reveal too much about the relationship and her new partner.

“I don’t want to say any more about who he is right now as that would be unfair on him. All I’ll say is we are around the same age and he was a very nice guy,” Boyle said.

”Went for a massage…”

It’s obvious that Susan had strong feelings for the American doctor, but unfortunately the relationship didn’t develop into anything serious. It just wasn’t practical in the long term, according to Susan.

But in recent years, the singer revealed more details about the mysterious doctor. Their first meeting was almost a bit cinematic.

”I had a date in America six years ago, which lasted exactly 45 minutes. I went for a massage in the spa of a hotel and met a doctor, and then we went out for lunch. I didn’t tell anyone, and my team thought I’d been kidnapped,” she said.

The short-lived relationship confirmed the rumors and speculations that surrounded Susan Boyle’s romances – it was quite symptomatic of her love life so far. Over the years, she’s had a really hard time finding a man she loves and a man that fits in to her everyday life.

As for now, it’s been a long time since Susan was on a date – she’s almost given up hope of getting married.

”I’ve been on my own too long now to get married. It’s good manners to wait to be asked, so I’ll just have to continue to keep waiting,” she told Lady Magazine.

Unsurprisingly, Susan Boyle still receives many emails from fans who want to take her out. During a tour in Japan, a fan proposed to her.

”If I get fan letters from men, I’m flattered that they like me,” she says.

Susan Boyle children

While SuBo is patiently waiting to meet ”Mr Right”, there is something else that has been bothering her for a while. Susan has always wanted to be a mother and have children of her own.

”I’ve never had any of my own, that’s my biggest regret, but I love kids. They’re good fun to be with,” she told The Sun.

As a 60-year-old woman, time is not exactly on her side. But Susan has opened up on perhaps adopting or becoming a foster parent for children who need a safe and loving home.
