When trying something new, most of us try to avoid expressing our reactions completely, whether positive or negative.
With dogs, the situation is somewhat different. They are not shy about expressing in some way that they are thinking of something new, and their responses are often hilarious.
This is especially true when trying new foods or drinks without realizing that they are something different. A black lab found herself in such a situation, but had no idea what hit her when her tongue touched what she thought was clear water.

A short video was posted on the Instagram profile @theblacklabrador_poppy and immediately attracted the attention of many subscribers.
A black Labrador named Poppy couldn’t help but try the mysterious liquid in her owner’s cup. At the beginning of the video, her tongue can be seen happily moving up and down as she tastes what is presumably regular water.
But after a few seconds, her head suddenly lifted from the cup and assumed a defensive posture, as if something had bitten her tongue dangerously.
She moves back and forth in protest, and finally gives it some side-eye that seems to say “What is this spicy stuff?”. It was indeed water, but the sparkling one.
However, in this video, Poppy showed what she thinks about it and that there is no need for her mom and dad to spend money on it. Poppy would rather stick her head under the faucet.

Daddy Was “A Guilty Party”
Jaclyn Littrup, Poppy’s owner, who lives in Michigan, said that her husband, Gerrit, was drinking sparkling water in the Instagram video and that he is to “blame” for Poppy’s reaction.
“Poppy is very curious, so of course she would be interested in it. She was trying to smell it because she’s always interested in what we are having,” Littrup said in an interview for Newsweek.
She shared that her husband eventually succumbed to Poppy’s begging and decided to give her a small amount in a bottle cap. The black Lab’s owner recalls her adorable reaction: “Well, she had a lick and she is definitely not a fan of sparkling water.”
Jaclyn also said that Poppy is always a hungry girl and that she goes absolutely nuts when it’s mealtime.
“Anytime we have snacks, open the fridge or start cooking she is immediately next to us waiting to see if she can have a bite. Poppy wants to try everything we have. We have to tell her no from time to time,” the Realtor said.
Because of her love for food, they even dressed her in a hamburger costume last Halloween!
By next Halloween, they’ll probably have to find a costume in the shape of a big bottle of sparkling water!
Followers Were Delighted With Her Reaction
Poppy has her own profiles on Instagram and TikTok. At the time this video was posted, the beautiful black Labrador from Michigan had a large following.
However, this viral video made her a star and in addition to many likes, she also received many reactions from her fans.
“That side eye though so cute,” one user said.
Another one joked: “Why does it taste like tv static?!?!”.
“My oldest daughter as a toddler just screamed too much bubbles tickles my brain!” one woman wrote, and we guess that is exactly what Poppy was thinking at that moment, but wasn’t able to articulate it.
What Poppy managed to tell/show us is that next time, she will think carefully before trying something new, especially if it is a liquid.
