In the middle of the bustling streets of Detroit, where many stray animals already make rescue efforts difficult, a remarkable dog has managed to defy all rescue attempts.
This is the story of Amina, a very shy and intelligent sweet potato, and the extraordinary teamwork that ultimately leads to her rescue. This combination of temperamental and pregnant Pitti kept everyone at bay for more than 30 days until a devoted person decided they deserved a chance against all odds.

Amina was a very fearful stray dog and would not allow anyone to come within 20 feet of her. It was clear that she was still running from something, but no one knew what exactly she was running from.
Seeing this girl lost in Detroit, Cristina Mariani immediately felt the need to do something to help her. She was listed on the All Missing Dogs website for several weeks, but remained unidentified and unclaimed. Apparently no one had seen her before, but she was still guarding a narrow street a few blocks from her neighborhood. “She ran away for days, hiding in alleys whenever rescue approached.
She was too smart to catch her in the fenced yard or find her near an area where she could be easily cornered. I couldn’t do it,” Christina wrote in an Instagram post. Ultimately, the rescue effort to save a stray pit bull living on the street and bring it to safety drew large groups of strangers in several areas.
As a result, a team of dedicated staff worked around the clock to retrace her route, feed her, consult local experts and try all standard dog trapping strategies and equipment. But Amina was too smart for her own good.
She quickly memorized her vehicle and her face that followed her every time they attempted to capture her, which made her paranoid and fled at even greater speeds and distances. “I was the only exception, and that was after sitting still for six hours a day in his favorite chicken coop.
Yet, as soon as the wind blew or I made the slightest movement, she would She disappeared and hid in an alley for days,” Christina said. Over time, it turned out that Amina had given birth to a puppy and hid it in the bushes.

The beginning of an incredible story
Fortunately, after several weeks of setbacks, the wonderful organization Saving Destiny Animal Rescue decided to work with Christina and her neighbors, which ultimately led to victory.
Thanks to the right team and the best equipment, the mother dog and her babies were eventually captured and brought to safety. “Mommy and Chicken Nugget escaped safely. They will stay with us until weaning, and then Amina will eventually come back with me,” Christina told The Dodo.
After a few weeks, the puppies are fully weaned and old enough to go to their forever homes. Luckily, rescuers were able to find them wonderful forever homes. Amina began to live with Christina.
Even though Amina was in a safe place, she was still very scared. She refused to relax or even leave the breakfast table after several weeks.
But Christina didn’t give up. She believed that with time and patience, Amina would realize the love she offered and realize there was nothing to fear.
This was just the beginning of their wonderful relationship.
Slowly but surely, Amina began her advances. She started wagging her tail and eventually looked around the house.
“So she’s officially gone from sweet potato to couch potato, which was my plan from the moment I saw her on the street. Sweet potatoes are mine forever,” Christina said.
