Shelter staff know their beloved residents want loving homes and wonderful families who love them unconditionally. This is every shelter dog’s biggest dream and they will never be truly happy until it comes true. To help more shelter dogs find their forever homes, the Metro East Humane Society is holding its annual Black Friday Adoption Event. Adoption costs are generously covered by shelter sponsors.
This year’s adoption event was the most successful yet. Shelter staff were delighted when 94 animals, including 64 dogs, found loving homes. While all the animals in the shelter were hugging and kissing their new parents, one puppy was left alone. It was Frito. One of my favorite things about the shelter.
Frito is excluded.

The shelter staff were devastated when they realized their beautiful daughter was being neglected.
“She is a very lovely and deserving girl, so it was a shame that she was overlooked and no one came forward for her. We all know how special Frito is, so to see so many people pass her by was upsetting,” Ali Hillard, the program manager, told The Dodo.
Shelter workers took Frito to a shelter in Madison County, Illinois. Once they entered the shelter, it was completely quiet. Frito realized he was alone in the shelter and looked at his friends with sad eyes.
Before sending him to the kennel, his friends at the shelter held Frito’s beautiful face in their hands. They hugged her, assured her everything was going to be okay, and kissed her goodnight.

The next day, Frito showed his friends that he would not be sad. Even though he had no one to play with, Frito ran around the yard and played with “imaginary friends,” a shelter worker wrote in a TikTok video.
He looked happy, like he was running around with a doll in his mouth. The shelter staff hopes that adorable Frito will soon be reunited with his parents forever. He is a wonderful dog who wants to enjoy life.
“Frito is really not a picky girl. Her ideal forever home would be any home looking for a dog that is a healthy mix of both sweet and cuddly while also being super silly and playful,” Hillard said.
The shelter staff shared on their TikTok that Frito moved to a foster home and that she is enjoying it very much. She’s glad that she can finally experience the warmth and comfort of a home.
Just like her shelter friends in Madison County, we are also rooting for Frito to find a forever home as soon as possible. The sweet pup deserves to be boundlessly loved and adored.
