It had to remain a secret

No one could have known that Murphy was deeply in love with her neighbor. But no… He couldn’t help but notice that Murphy was enjoying someone’s compliments.

He had to watch her rub the man’s stomach over the fence. Of course he had to break off this wonderful, secret relationship.

Of course, Murphy had to be arrested. While it lasted, it was too good, too sweet to be true.

A lot has changed during the lockdown, when we are all stuck at home, fighting the biggest pandemic yet. If anything, we start to appreciate the little things more than we used to.

Many of us have moved from home to work and done a lot. We were staying home, enjoying the short bursts of work and trying to make life interesting again.

I know many dogs who like their owners to be home all the time. But I also know several dogs who suffer from chronic attention deficit disorder. The owner was there, but he didn’t always have time to pet or play with him. Your dog doesn’t understand why you stay at home for hours instead of playing with him.

A dog named Murphy belongs to a different breed of dog. His wife was at home, but she was too busy to pay much attention to poor Murphy.

He needed new friends, socialization and more attention as soon as possible. With the dog park no longer an option, Murphy had to find other ways to make friends. Fortunately, he didn’t go far from home. Locking remains highly valued.

One day, while enjoying himself in his backyard, Murphy realized he had a secret admirer. A neighbor reached through a hole in the fence and offered to rub his belly. Murphy immediately fell in love with this man and made him her best friend. The man strokes the dog on the fence

But Murphy acted wisely. He never told Howman Jo-Hannah about his secret relationship.

The days passed slowly during the lockdown, and Murphy’s relationship remained a secret for some time. But one day, when his master sent him on business, he noticed Murphy turning straight back, as if he knew someone was waiting for him.

And, there he was: the hand of Murphy’s neighbor friend was waiting, showering Murphy with cuddles.

It’s sweet moments like this one that helped us get through COVID-19 and overcome it completely. Both Murphy and his neighbor found comfort in each other through rough times.

“With lockdown and ‘work from home,’ I’m the only person he speaks to. So, I think he likes getting pets from someone else for a change,” Jo.Hannah said back then. “But I’m happy he gets a bit of socialization. He definitely loves company. It’s nice to know that Murphy has neighbors who like him.”

Jo-Hannah wasn’t really mad that her dog was having a secret relationship with their owner. She was glad that Murphy, the dog that was such a social butterfly, was getting plenty of socialization and attention in those terrible times.

The Golden Retriever-Labrador mix was blessed with the attention from his neighbor back when people didn’t socialize much, and when we were all about getting our lives back on track.

Today, the pandemic seems long gone. We have no more info on Murphy and whether he finally met his next door neighbor. But, we do have this sweet story to remind us that even in the darkest times, dogs are the beams of light that help us think pawsitively.
