Ty Pennington went from fine at Barbie Premiere to having major surgery two days later

Following a significant medical emergency this week, Ty Pennington is recovering.

The 58-year-old HGTV star revealed that he was in the ICU on Friday after developing an abscess that required surgery in a series of Instagram posts of himself in the hospital.

He began his caption, “This last week has been interesting, from the red carpet to the ICU.”. I’m fine right now, still getting better, but I thought it odd that I hadn’t posted about my teams BOTB victory! SO freaking proud of @smashingdiy and @iamstevelewis!! Will post about that next. ”.

For clarification on why he went missing, he said, “Sunday I hit the red carpet for @barbiethemovie, Monday I flew to Colorado to start filming in Breckinridge, and Tuesday morning I woke up at 4am and could barely breathe.”. It turns out that the sore throat I had for a month was actually an abscess that had gotten so big that it was blocking my airway. The next thing I knew, I was being intubated and being transported to the Denver ICU. ”.

Every part of the body can develop an abscess, which is a pus-filled collection. The immune system tries to combat an infection when it affects a body part. The Cleveland Clinic claims that after white blood cells reach the infected area and accumulate therein, the harmed tissue becomes inflamed and a pocket develops.

Internal abscesses are typically treated with anesthesia, during which a catheter is used to drain the abscess by a physician.

According to Pennington, he underwent surgery on Wednesday to remove the abscess, and on Thursday he was discharged from the intensive care unit. The Rock the Block star urged his fans to pay attention to their health as they concentrate on their own recovery.

“I want to express my gratitude to the wonderful staff at St. “I want to thank Summit Health in Frisco and Anthony’s in Lakewood, CO for taking such great care of me,” he wrote in the post’s conclusion. “Just happy to be here is a great reminder to LISTEN to your body when it’s telling you something. ”.
