If you’ve owned a Great Dane at some point in your life, you know what a great family dog they are. But these amazing athletes continue to amaze us with their brilliance, and just when you think you’ve cracked their code, they surprise you with something new. Etta, a 100-pound Great Dane, was a special needs puppy when she was adopted by Catherine Mongrain of the Bottle Brigade. At that time, Catherine could not have imagined how important Etta would be to her institution. That is why!
Etta herself was a special needs dog.
Etta was a dog with special needs.
Etta was adopted as a newborn by The Bottle Brigade, an animal shelter in Houston, Texas. The facility, which originally dealt with dogs with special needs, took in dogs that could not walk. Photos of Etta when she was a puppy
He lost his hind limbs due to an infection that caused poor blood circulation in his limbs. They didn’t think she would make it, but Etta fought hard and survived the most difficult time of her life. He never lost his passion

He was a fighter through and through. Gradually, he began to crawl. When he was a few months old, he suddenly stood up!
It was an emotional moment to see him walking around like a normal puppy, especially since the doctors gave him little chance of survival.
As her condition improved, Etta began to eat voraciously and eventually became a 100-pound Great Dane. Eventually he was fitted with a prosthesis that allowed him to walk normally and he adapted quickly!
The Bottle Brigade took it for good.

Catherine’s original idea was to foster Etta until she found the perfect home. But it was hard to let him go because he was a good dog. Etta kept her spirits up by patrolling the house and checking on all the other dogs like her mother.
Catherine realizes how important her energy is to the entire complex and decides to make Etta her guardian!
Being a good mother is her daily routine.

They always try to make every dog feel good. As soon as he hears a cry coming from the box, he runs to find out what’s going on. In a way, he seems to be trying to soothe the traumatized puppies with his presence.
“Etta would be the first into the nursery when there was a baby crying. They become lonely, and Etta was there trying to mother them. Maybe she remembers when she was in there, and now she’s giving back to these little babies. She’s helping to get to a point where she is now.”
Despite the fact that she’s not their birth mama, Etta’s embraced as the ultimate mom in the family. And, she loves her new role so much! Once a special needs puppy, she’s now an intuitive dog that takes her job very seriously.
We wish her a long, happy life around her new babies! They sure need her!
