After finding out about Turner’s passing on Wednesday, Winfrey, 69, posted a carousel of photos of the two of them having fun over the years on Instagram.
She captioned the picture, saying, “I started out as a fan of Tina Turner, then a full-on groupie, following her from show to show around the country, and then, eventually, we became real friends.
“She is our enduring rock ‘n’ roll goddess. She had a great deal of inner strength that only increased with time. ”.
Turner, she said, “served as a role model not only for me but for the world” and “encouraged a part of me I didn’t know existed.”.”.
The TV host discussed how the singer of “What’s Love Got to Do with It” gave her the courage to live bravely.
She claimed that once she gained freedom from years of domestic abuse, her life “became a clarion call for triumph.”. “I admire her bravery in showing the world what triumph looks like in a leather miniskirt and Manolo shoes.”.
She said, “She once told me that when the time came for her to leave this world, she would not be afraid but excited and curious. “She had learned how to LIVE because she was surrounded by her loving husband Erwin and friends. ”.
Winfrey said that she was grateful for the influence her life had had on her and that it had helped her become “a better woman, a better human.”.
In a later post, Winfrey included a video of herself and Turner dancing on stage and singing “The Best” together.
“I had the chance to perform on stage with Tina during her ‘Wildest Dreams’ tour and felt a glimpse of her beautiful universe,” she wrote as the caption for the video. I was so tense that my knees began to bump into one another. The time I spent dancing on stage with her in Los Angeles was the most enjoyable experience I can recall having outside of my comfort zone.”.
